There were several Chucky episode 5 references and Easter eggs for fans to catch — including homages to Hannibal, callbacks to Bride of Chucky and a perfect secret casting. Since its premiere in October 2021, Don Mancini’s Chucky TV show has not been short on nods or Easter eggs. They’ve even included a long-awaited reference to Seed of Chucky’s Glen/Glenda.
Chucky episode 5 also marked the official return of Jennifer Tilly’s Tiffany and Fiona Dourif’s Nica Pierce. With the latter still possessed by part of Chucky’s soul, viewers were treated to even more bloody carnage than in previous episodes. Meanwhile, Jake, Devon, and Lexy officially banded together to oppose Chucky.
Chucky episode 5, “Little Little Lies” saw that conflict intensifying following the events of previous Chucky installments. Despite that, the show’s writers continued to keep the references coming. Here’s a breakdown for each of Chucky‘s episode 5 references and Easter eggs.
Saw
A random man in his underwear could be seen lying dead in the middle of Tiffany and Chucky-Nica’s hotel room as they indulged in their games. Equally surrounded by blood, it wasn’t dissimilar from how Jigsaw positioned himself in Saw as his own game played out.
Saw 2
Another Chucky episode 5 easter egg put its own comedic spin on Saw 2’s worst and most harrowing trap. After being dumped down a hospital trash chute, Chucky landed in a pit of used needles. Rather than being horrified, however, he gleefully swam about and enjoyed the excess drugs they offered.
Tommy
To soothe Caroline after losing Chucky, her father bought her a replacement Good Guy doll. It came with the name Tommy, much like the model Andy found in his foster parent’s house in Child’s Play 2.
Lexy’s Freak-Out
Upon discovering that Caroline had a new doll, Lexy instinctively went on the offensive and attacked it. Andy did much the same thing to his Tommy in Child’s Play 2, to double-check it was actually just a doll. As such, Tommy remained unable to catch a break.
Toy Story 3
One of Chucky episode 5 more unusual easter eggs sees the killer doll, after being discarded, surprisingly making his way back to the Cross house — indicating Chucky may genuinely care about Caroline. There, he was greeted with the sight of her playing with his replacement. As he watched with a sad expression, this echoed Lotso’s painful backstory in Toy Story 3.
Swedish Meatballs
While frolicking with Chucky-Nica, Tiffany expressed a craving for Swedish meatballs. It was a callback to Bride of Chucky, where it was said to be Chucky’s favorite. Equally, that particular dish caused an argument between Tiffany and Chucky in episode 5, much like in the movie.
In The Garbage (Again)
Chucky was thrown in the garbage not once but twice in Chucky episode 5. The move has become a common one, going far back as the original movie. It’s never worked out, with Chucky always coming back. In this case, he was able to transfer his soul before the doll body met that particular fate the second time around.
Westworld (Again)
There were further signs that Junior may become Chucky’s new protege among the Chucky episode 5 easter eggs. As Junior futilely tried to engage with the new group of Jake, Devon, and Lexy, he directly name-dropped Westworld. His thinking that guests doing whatever they wanted to the hosts sounded cool felt like entirely the wrong takeaway, exacerbating his alienation.
Hannibal
After killing Principal McVey at the town meeting, Chucky arranged her body in what could only be described as a Hannibal-esque tableau. It was no doubt a knowing nod, with Mancini having proudly worked on the show and remained friends with creator Bryan Fuller.
“My Mother Always Said…”
While arguing with Chucky-Nica, the hangry Tiffany yelled, “My mother always said, don’t let a man c***block you from what makes you happy!” Variations of that line have become a staple of the character, with her frequently repeating wisdom her mom supposedly offered.
Young Charles Lee Ray
Viewers got a fresh look at Chucky’s pre-doll days. That wouldn’t usually constitute a Chucky episode 5 Easter egg. It was elevated to one, however, with the reveal that Fiona Dourif had offered a flawless, gender-bending performance. Taking the mantle from her father, she embodied Charles Lee Ray for the flashback scenes. It’s unknown whether she’ll reprise the role in future Chucky episodes but either way, the casting was perfect and an amazing Easter egg.
