Chuck Norris’ Action Movie Return Is Perfect After Expendables 4 & Sylvester Stallone’s $50M Struggles

It has been over a decade since Chuck Norris made an appearance on the big screen, but now, the legendary action hero is back with a new movie that has come at exactly the right time. Chuck Norris began his career as a martial artist, trained in Tang Soo Do, Brazilian jiu jitsu and judo. He started training actors in Hollywood, but quickly fell into acting himself, becoming a popular action movie star by 1978. Since then, he has appeared in projects such as Missing in Action, Lone Wolf McQuade, Code of Silence, Walker, Texas Ranger, and The Expendables franchise.

Chuck Norris’ newest film is called Agent Recon. Set to be released in 2024, the movie is a sci-fi action film that follows Norris as the leader of an Earth security task force who assigns a rookie, played by Derek Ting, to join the ranks of a colonel (Marc Singer) in his investigation of a strange disturbance in New Mexico, where experiments on alien technology are rumored to be happening. The trio must work together to take down an unidentifiable and incredible powerful individual. As previously mentioned, Agent Recon is the first Chuck Norris movie since Expendables 2 in 2012, so this is quite the milestone for the 83-year-old actor.

Chuck Norris’ Return Is Great For The Action Genre, Especially After Expendables 4’s Failure

While there is not necessarily a lack of action movies these days, Chuck Norris’ return to the genre is definitely a big step forward, especially after Expendables 4 killed the franchise. For several years, The Expendables franchise has been a major player in the action genre that has notably brought together some of Hollywood’s greatest action heroes ever. Led by Sylvester Stallone, The Expendables movies have included actors like Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, and many more. Unfortunately though, its most recent installment struggled critically and at the box office.

Although Expendables 4 and its cast of action greats could not bring audiences to theaters, Chuck Norris very well could. Like Stallone, Norris has enjoyed a vast career that has made him a staple of the genre, therefore his movies are ones that audiences want to see. Furthermore, the fact that Norris hasn’t acted in quite a while makes his return important. Audiences will want to see if Norris still has what it takes to lead a big budget action movie, especially at his age. Altogether, Chuck Norris’ return is coming at the perfect time because Agent Recon could revitalize the action genre where Expendables 4 failed it.

Why Wasn’t Chuck Norris In The Expendables 3 & 4?

Though Chuck Norris appeared in The Expendables 2, he left the franchise after only one film, and it’s unclear why. One likely reason is that Norris’ acting career had already slowed by that point. The Expendables 2 was the first film he had done in six years, his time having been occupied with other pursuits such as writing and publishing. Probably, Norris did not want to commit himself to a big franchise when he had already stopped acting for the most part. Furthermore, The Expendables 3 and The Expendables 4 took on new casts of action stars, so Chuck Norris was likely just replaced with a different celebrity.
