Jason Clarke and Louise Lombard are the latest to join the star-studded ensemble cast of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The upcoming film is the director’s biopic about one of the fathers of the Atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer. The theoretical physicist ran the Manhattan Project, developing the nuclear weapons that were ultimately deployed in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WW2. Clarke is mostly known for his roles in big blockbusters such as Dawn of the Planet of The Apes, Terminator: Genisys and Pet Sematary. Lombard is known for her portrayal of Evangeline Elliot in BBC’s The House of Elliot, and Trish in After We Fell and After We Collided.
Deadline now reports that Clarke and Lombard are the latest names added to Nolan’s top tier Oppenheimer cast, for which production started earlier last week in New Mexico. Their roles are currently unknown. Clarke and Lombard will be joining Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer. Starring alongside Murphy is Emily Blunt as Oppenhimer’s wife, communist botanist Katherine Oppenheimer. Also signed on are Robert Downey Jr. as Chair of the United States Atomic Energy Commission Lewis Strauss, Matt Damon as Leslie Groves, the Manhattan Project’s director, and David Dastmalchian in an unknown role.
Serving as the latest project from acclaimed The Dark Knight series, Dunkirk and Inception director, Oppenheimer comes highly–anticipated, and will be released in the summer of 2023. With Nolan’s impressive cast continuing to grow, audiences may begin to wonder how much screen time actors will get in this jam-packed ensemble, and perhaps how long Oppenheimer‘s run time may end up being. However, with more stars like Clarke and Lombard joining on, and an award-winning veteran like Nolan at the helm, Oppenheimer is guaranteed to be an exciting project.
