Chris Pratt’s DCU Casting Teased By James Gunn’s Cryptic Hint

Chris Pratt’s DCU Casting Teased By James Gunn’s Cryptic Hint

Another Guardians of the Galaxy veteran may be on their way to the DC Universe as James Gunn cryptically teases the potential involvement of Chris Pratt. 2023 marked the end of Gunn’s tenure at Marvel Studios as he wrapped up his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and is now completely focused on his duties as co-CEO of DC Studios. However, while Gunn may be leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he is bringing over several actors that he worked with throughout his Marvel Studios productions.

Ever since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finished the trilogy, fans have been actively speculating which MCU stars Gunn will potentially cast for his upcoming DC Universe Chapter 1 projects. Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis, is said to already be eying a role in Gunn’s new franchise, although her character has yet to be revealed.

However, it appears that one of Gunn’s biggest favorites may also be heading over to the DC Universe. A user named Airry85 recently expressed to Gunn on Threads that they “would like some [actors] from the cast of GotG to guest star” in Peacemaker season 2, suggesting that Pratt or Klementieff to portray themselves. Gunn ended up giving quite the intriguing response, stating that “There are reasons I wouldn’t want either of those actors to play themselves in the DCU!,” hinting that Pratt may already be part of his upcoming DC Studios plans.

Who Chris Pratt Could Play In The DCU

If Pratt is actually set to join the DC Universe, the bigger question then becomes who he could play in DC Studios’ upcoming franchise. One of the projects that Gunn has confirmed for Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters,” is the Booster Gold TV show that will be airing on Max. With Michael Jon Carter having a lot of similarities to Star-Lord, a lot of fans have been suggesting Pratt for the role of Booster Gold.

Hal Jordan is also someone that Pratt has been fan-cast as several times, staying with the theme of playing space-based superheroes. DC Studios is working on a Lanterns TV series that will feature both Hal and John Stewart, with development currently on hold due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes. One DC character that Pratt could be a solid fit for is Plastic Man, who would be someone that falls into the type of characters that Gunn explores within his superhero stories, both because of his eccentric powers and his largely comedic role in the comics.

Time will tell if Pratt even ends up having a significant role in the DC Universe, given that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 did tease that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return,” implying Peter is far from done in the MCU. There is always the scenario where Pratt ends up having a voice-only role, whether that is a CGI-heavy character or lending his voice to Gunn’s DC animated projects. For now, the world will have to wait and see if the DC Universe is getting one of Gunn’s leading Guardians of the Galaxy actors in his new franchise.
