Though Chris Hemsworth began acting in 2002, he didn’t make the swap to the big screen until 2009. However, after that, it wasn’t long until he was scoring all sorts of giant roles, including that of a Marvel superhero.
Being that Hemsworth is one of the biggest and highest-paid actors out there today, we decided to take a look at his leading feature films to see how they stack up. To do this, we’ll be turning to IMDb for answers. The popular entertainment website has rated every single Hemsworth film on a scale of 1 to 10. These rankings are based on the votes of registered users, and we’ll be using them to score each movie.
It’s also worth noting that we won’t be including films that Hemsworth had very little part in. For example, Hemsworth only appeared in the Doctor Strange end credits scene and as a voice in Star Trek Into Darkness. So, because of this, films like that won’t be making the cut.
With that said, it’s time to take a trip through Hemsworth’s film history and rank ten of his best films, according to IMDb.
Thor (7.0)
The first movie in the Thor series, which debuted in 2011, had the titular character dealing with life on earth after he is banished from Asgard. Though things at first look bleak, Thor soon finds himself facing new threats and falling for a woman named Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).
The film raked in the cash at the box office and received three sequels, one of which is yet to premiere. The fourth film in the franchise, Thor: Love And Thunder, is scheduled to be released on November 5, 2021.
The Cabin In The Woods (7.0)
This 2011 horror-comedy follows a group of friends from college who end up embarking on a getaway to a cabin in the middle of a forest. However, their fun and relaxing trip turns out to be anything but after zombies start appearing. Things only grow more complicated when they learn that there are technicians underground who are causing the strange events to occur.
Though the film’s box office score was modest in Hollywood terms, it received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics for being humorous, frightening, and strange. Hemsworth, of course, played one of the visiting college students.
Bad Times At The El Royale (7.1)
This 2018 neo-noir thriller tells the story of a cleric, singer, salesman, manager, set of sisters, and cult leader who stumble into each other at an old hotel on the California-Nevada border. The last of these, the charismatic Billy Lee, is played by none other than Hemsworth himself.
Though the film was a box office flop, it received generally positive reviews. The runtime and pacing had some heat thrown at it, but the cast’s strong, overall performance could not be denied.
Avengers: Age Of Ultron (7.3)
After Thor and The Avengers, in 2015, Chris Hemsworth reprised his role as the God of Thunder for Avengers: Age of Ultron.
This time around, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) creates a peacekeeping robot known as Ultron that accidentally derails and sets out to end humankind. This causes the Avengers to reassemble in an attempt to put an end to Ultron’s plans and stop two new superhero threats: Pietro and Wanda.
The film received lots of praise, lots of money, and lots of awards. Though not quite as applauded as the other installments in the series, it had moviegoers excited for the following film.
Star Trek (7.9)
Though Chris Hemsworth’s voice only appears in the Star Trek sequel, his actual self shows up near the beginning of J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot of Star Trek.
No, Hemsworth doesn’t play Captain Kirk — that honor goes to Chris Pine — but he does play his father. George Kirk ends up dying aboard the USS Kelvin while fighting off Romulans. This drama happens while his wife, Winona Kirk (Jennifer Morrison), gives birth to their son.
The reboot was well-received for being visually brilliant, action-packed, funny, and plot-driven. It ultimately received two sequels.
Thor: Ragnarok (7.9)
The latest installment in the Thor franchise had the titular character being shipped off to the strange alien planet of Sakaar. After competing in the Contest of Champions, he runs into Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and soon must find a way to get back to Asgard before his sister Hela (Cate Blanchett) destroys it all.
This Thor film became the most beloved yet. Though the original cast was great, the strong additions including Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, and Tessa Thompson made it even better.
The Avengers (8.0)
Marvel’s greatest superheroes first came together in 2012’s The Avengers. Thor, of course, was among the heroes.
The original movie had the gang joining together to fight against Thor’s mischevious brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) after he starts utilizing the power of the energy cube known as the Tesseract.
The movie tour up the box office, breaking numerous records and becoming the third-highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release. This, of course, caused a number sequels to come after it.
Rush (8.1)
When Hemsworth wasn’t busy fighting off villains as a Greek god, he was busy driving racecars.
The 2013 biographical sports film known as Rush followed the tense competition between Australian drivers James Hunt (Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) during the 1976 Formula 1 racing season.
The film did well for itself at the box office and received positive reviews from critics who found it to be a solid, entertaining sports drama.
Avengers: Infinity War (8.5)
The third Avengers installment had the gang embarking on a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones before Thanos could. This proves to be no easy task, and the journey causes Thor, in particular, to end up teaming the Guardians of the Galaxy soon after the crew rescues him from his Asgardian ship.
While Infinity War was dazzling and well-formed on its own, the cliffhanger ending had fans begging for the following movie to come quickly.

Avengers: Endgame (8.5)
Topping it off is Endgame, the film in which the Avengers join back together to reverse time, collect the Stones, and reverse Thanos’ decision to wipe out half of all humanity.
When the gang catches up to Thor, it’s revealed that he is no longer the athletic and charming hero he once was. Instead, he has retreated to a hiding place to drink heavily and lounge around after becoming depressed by the team’s earlier failure. Despite this setback, he eventually joins back with the Avengers for one final fight.
