Don’t Look Up‘s Chris Evans cameo is a notable addition in a film full of famous faces. The Captain America star has a very small but impressionable role in the star-studded satirical comedy. Packed with plenty of McKay’s signature quirky characters and an all-star cast, Don’t Look Up is a story of urgency and importance. Considering McKay’s knack for gathering a plethora of talent in his films, there’s no surprise that a couple of surprise celebrities turn up in the film, and Chris Evans’ Don’t Look Up cameo is the most surprising by far.
In Don’t Look Up, Chris Evans’ cameo appears towards the end of the film, with Evans playing an actor named Devin Peters. In the scene, Peters is doing an interview for his upcoming blockbuster film Total Destruction, a major filmed production depicting the “true story” of Don’t Look Up‘s astronomical comet threat. It’s a hilarious scene satirizing Hollywood’s knack for fact-based films about tragedies and real-world threats, and Chris Evans’ cocky action star persona that he puts on as Devin Peters is quite amusing to watch, even if his cameo is brief.
In a film full of hilarious cutaway gags and off-beat moments, Chris Evans’ Don’t Look Up cameo is a standout. It’s always fun to see Chris Evans, but the scene works on many different levels and plays beautifully to Don’t Look Up‘s more satirical edge. It’s a brief moment amongst the chaotic relentlessness of Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, but Chris Evans’ cameo stands out as one of the more clever moments in the film. Chris Evans has proved his star status on multiple occasions, and even when he doesn’t have a large part in a film, he’s a joy to see. It’s a cameo that works on a simple level of seeing an actor that is widely known and loved, but it also works in favor of the larger picture of the film.
