Chip & Dale Crashed The Doctor Strange 2 Premiere Red Carpet

The stars of Disney’s Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers crash the red carpet premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in a funny new photo. Chip and Dale have been part of Disney’s character catalog since 1943, finally getting their own show, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, in 1989. The series followed the Rescue Rangers detective agency, headed by the titular chipmunks, with help from their trusted team, including Gadget Hackwrench, Monterey Jack, and Zipper. While the series ended its run in 1990, Chip and Dale are set to star in their own movie due to hit Disney+ later this month.

The new film, also called Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, acts as a meta continuation of the animated series, picking up with the chipmunks coexisting amongst people and other cartoon characters in the real world, much like Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Directed by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer, the movie sees Chip (John Mulaney) working as an insurance salesman, with his days on the show long in the past, while Dale (Andy Samberg) is still attending conventions and interacting with fans. The two must join forces again to help find missing cartoon characters. With the release of Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers on the horizon, the characters popped up at the premiere of Marvel’s next film, Doctor Strange 2.

In a humorous photo shared by the Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Twitter account, the chipmunks are pictured on the red carpet at the premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Seen as they are in the trailers for the new Rescue Rangers film, Dale is a 3D animated character after getting “CGI surgery,” while Chip still appears in his 2D form. The photo also adds a sign with their names, which is a humorous joke in reference to how red carpets often operate. Check out the picture of Chip and Dale at the Doctor Strange 2 premiere below:

Given that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is being likened to horror films, it may seem like an odd place for the younger-skewing animated chipmunks to show up. However, the properties do share connective tissue beyond Disney’s ownership. Chip ‘n Dale‘s reimagining puts them in a unique world that blends animation and reality, which can be seen as an alternate universe of sorts, similar to Doctor Strange 2, where the plot revolves around jumping between numerous parallel universes. And while Chip ‘n Dale is rated PG, the trailers have included plenty of humor aimed at adults who likely grew up with the show.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on Friday, and early reviews are hailing it as another winner for Marvel. Like Doctor Strange 2, Chip ‘n Dale also promises a wide variety of characters popping up throughout, though it’s skipping theaters for Disney+. Audiences can see Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers when it hits streaming on May 20.
