Chinese Zodiac: 5 Horror Movies Monkeys Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate)

Chinese Zodiac: 5 Horror Movies Monkeys Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate)

Horrors remain one of the most popular film genres. They’re often relatively cheap to make, at least when compared to other genres, and they’re still attractive to the audience since they rely on one of the oldest human emotion – fear. However, to make a horror film that would be loved by the people born in the Chinese Zodiac sign of the Monkey is no easy task.

Monkeys are playful creatures with a sense of humor, and as such, usually aren’t the first viewers who would go to see a horror movie. There are exceptions, of course. Let’s take a look at 5 horror movies Monkeys will love and 5 they will hate

Will Love: The Invisible Man (2020)

Chinese Zodiac: 5 Horror Movies Monkeys Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate)

Monkeys are complex people. They’re usually wild and lively at one hand, but also intelligent and introspective at the other. They like to think about the films they watch, sometimes to the degree that it makes it difficult for them to enjoy the film if it doesn’t make sense. However, The Invisible Man might be the right film for Monkeys since it combines several genres together successfully and is just as complex as people born in this sign.

Will Hate: Martin (1978)

The less-known 1978 horror film offers an interesting premise. It focuses on a young man who isn’t a vampire but believes he has to drink people’s blood anyway. While Monkeys might appreciate the idea behind the story, they won’t most likely enjoy its execution. The film lacks a coherent storyline, it’s more of a series of loosely connected scenes and Monkeys could very quickly get bored since they’re active people by nature and require a lot of excitement.

Will Love: Ready Or Not (2019)

Of all the Chinese Zodiac signs, Monkeys are probably the funniest people or at least humor loving. They love to joke and have fun so they’re exactly the type of viewers who might enjoy a horror combined with comedy.

Ready or Notis often frightening since it’s about a young bride hunted by her relatives but it’s also funny, considering the main heroine Grace is no gentle flower and isn’t afraid to do what she needs to survive.

Will Hate: Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959)

To be fair to Monkeys, there are a lot of horror fans who hate this film. It was filmed by Ed Wood, after all, and many people consider him one of the worst film directors who ever lived.

Some films are so bad they become good, but that’s not the case of Plan 9 from Outer Space which doesn’t make much sense from the beginning to the end. The film looks cheap even for the 1950s, an era in which a lot of C-list horror sci-fi films were created.

Will Love: Zombieland (2009)

If there’s one thing that can be said about Monkeys and it usually rings true, it’s that they have an understanding of the absurd and often even like. The 2009 movie Zombieland and its sequel Zombieland: Double Tap introduces a version of a zombie apocalypse that is filled with plenty of humorous moments and with eccentric characters. It’s the ideal film for Monkeys since it includes both horror and humor.

Will Hate: The Blair Witch Project (1999)

As said above, while Monkeys are mostly known for being a playful sign, they’re also intelligent, even analytic, one might say. They’re able to accept a lot of bizarre premises but they still want them to make sense at least in the context of the cinematic universe they’re taking place in.

They also prefer clearly structured storylines which are something the now-famous found-footage horror movie lacks. It’s difficult to watch if one’s unprepared for it which may cause many viewers to lose interest in the film early on.

Will Love: Happy Death Day (2017)

Tree Happy Death Day

Monkeys are introspective creatures who like to think about various bizarre concepts that wouldn’t cross the mind of people born in different Chinese Zodiac signs. Happy Death Day brings to life one such concept – living through the same day over and over again.

This is exactly the type of playful possibility that any Monkey enjoys seeing in the film, no matter what its genre is, whether a romantic comedy, thriller or even horror with comedic elements like the 2017 film and its 2019 sequel Happy Death Day 2U.

Will Hate: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

Monkeys are surprisingly gentle creatures at heart and they don’t enjoy violence in movies that much. That’s one of the main reasons why they’re less likely to watch slasher films, especially those which offer only violence and a lot of shed blood and little else.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacreis not only overly brutal, but also entirely forgettable since it’s a remake of a much more popular film from 1974.

Will Love: Goosebumps (2015)

Jack Black and friends in Goosebumps

No matter what their age is, whether they’re teens, adults, or seniors, Monkeys will always be naturally more playful than other people. They can seem childish or absentminded at times but this is just masking their intelligence. Goosebumps is the perfect film for all viewers who want to once again feel like children. Inspired by the famous horror write R. L. Stine, it features the author himself played by Jack Black and his literary monsters who come to life and have to be stopped.

Will Hate: House Of Wax (2005)

Jared Padalecki and Elisha Cuthbert House of Wax 2005

Monkeys like lighthearted horrors, or at least highly intelligent ones, and many slashers don’t offer either of those things. The 2005 remake House of Wax, based on the 1953 film, is another example of a remake that offered nothing new to the world.
