Chicago Med Gives An Opportunity For This Chicago Fire Star To Return

Chicago Med Gives An Opportunity For This Chicago Fire Star To Return

The One Chicago franchise has always prided itself on its tight-knit casts, so having this Chicago Fire character be reintroduced on Chicago Med would make total sense. Paramedic Emily Foster was introduced on season 7 of Chicago Fire as Sylvie Brett’s new partner and the replacement for Gabriela Dawson. Emily had big shoes to fill but quickly proved herself to be the perfect fit for House 51.

Emily’s straightforward and persistent attitude won House 51 over in her short time there, getting especially close to Sylvie and Stella Kidd. Though it was a shame to see Emily exit Chicago Fire so soon at the end of season 8, the current status of Chicago Med gives her character a potential chance to return. The One Chicago franchise has already done this with firefighter-turned-doctor Jeff Clarke, and it would not be shocking to viewers if it happened again considering Emily’s background.

Chicago Fire’s Emily Foster Is Now A Doctor

Emily was introduced in Chicago Fire as a former medical student with some baggage. When her mom died during her residency at Lakeshore Hospital, she was expelled for cheating on her board exams. Her Chicago Fire storyline focused on her new life as a paramedic, and she struggled with her love of her new job and wanting to return to med school. After much debate, Emily left the show in the season 8 finale to go back to school at Northwestern, giving a Chicago Fire character a rare happy ending and opportunity for the character to return in Chicago Med.

In Chicago Fire’s season 9 premiere, Sylvie mentions that Emily is happy at Northwestern and has even picked up work in the COVID-19 ward on the side. It’s been a few years since then, so it’s safe to assume that Emily is, or at least close to being, a doctor now. Considering that Northwestern is still in Illinois, Emily may choose to stay working in the state which doesn’t rule out a Chicago return for her. She probably wouldn’t go back to Lakeshore, which could make Gaffney Medical Center a real possibility.

Chicago Med Needs More Doctors

Chicago Med has lost its fair share of doctors over the last few seasons, most recently losing the beloved Dr. Will Halstead in the season 8 finale. Chicago Med needs new doctors going into season 9, but it’s always jarring when someone comes in to replace an old face. Having Emily, a character who is already familiar to One Chicago viewers, come into Gaffney’s ED could soften the blow of losing Will. She already has a strong bond with many of the One Chicago characters, and it would be a huge plus to see her reunite with her Chicago Fire friends when they come into the ED.

Emily may have only been on two seasons of Chicago Fire, but she left a huge impression on House 51. Though she started out regretting her choices, she later expressed how being a paramedic changed her life and prepared her to return to medical school at the right time. That was a few seasons ago and Emily is likely a doctor now. One Chicago giving the new Dr. Foster a place in Chicago Med’s ED would be a logical, satisfying return for the Chicago Fire character.
