Cheryl Burke, a professional dancer on Dancing With The Stars, recently announced her retirement from the reality competition series and correlated it to “another” divorce. Cheryl and her ex-husband Matthew Lawrence filed for divorce back in February of this year after almost three years of marriage. The former pro competed on DWTS for 26 seasons, joining the show back in 2006. She won two Mirrorball Trophies before announcing her departure after the end of DWTS season 31.
After Cheryl took her last bow in the ballroom during the DWTS season 31 finale, she spoke to Page Six about how her departure made her feel. Cheryl claimed that the feeling is “bittersweet” considering how many years she poured into DWTS, and she is “overwhelmed.” The main way Cheryl could portray her emotions was by comparing her retirement to “another type of divorce” but called it an “amicable one.” Despite the love she has for DWTS, Cheryl made it clear she does not regret her decision to step back, claiming she is “capable to do other things.”
Cheryl Burke Wants To Become DWTS Judge
Following the 26 seasons Cheryl dedicated to DWTS, she did admit she would not mind taking Len Goodman’s place on the judging panel after his retirement. She opened up to Page Six, saying, “I would love to evolve,” in terms of becoming a judge on DWTS. Cheryl also admitted that she “never thought” she would depart DWTS at the same time Len retired. Yet, if Cheryl does not move up and become the replacement judge for Len, she is not concerned. The former DWTS dancer stated, “I had to do this for me.”
Throughout the years, Cheryl has created quite the fan base and really cemented a legacy for herself. It would be nice to see her stay within the DWTS family by becoming a judge, but if not, at least Cheryl can carry the memories with her. It makes sense for her to be emotional during this time since there are multiple changes happening at once, but maybe this will allow Cheryl to reinvent herself. She will be greatly missed by those who watched her throughout the years on DWTS.
After the emotional roller coaster that was the DWTS season 31 finale, it is good that Cheryl is doing something to benefit her. Hopefully, with all the important events going on in her life, like her divorce, stepping back from the limelight will help provide Cheryl with peace of mind. As for the fans, they will still be able to keep tabs on whatever future endeavors Cheryl partakes in, even if it does not involve Dancing With The Stars.
