Charlie Cox Says Something Else Is Coming For His Daredevil MCU Return

Charlie Cox Says Something Else Is Coming For His Daredevil MCU Return

Actor Charlie Cox says he knows that something else is happening with his return to the MCU as Daredevil/Matt Murdock. Cox first appeared as the character in the Netflix Marvel show, which ran for three seasons on the streamer. Cox was joined by Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Elodie Yung as Elektra, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, and Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. The show was created and developed by Drew Goddard with multiple showrunners steering it from season to season.

The previous live-action incarnation of Daredevil was in 2003’s Daredevil, which starred Ben Affleck in the titular role. The film was a modest success, but didn’t do well enough to merit a sequel, although an Elektra spinoff with Jennifer Garner was made in 2005. The third season of Cox’s Daredevil ended in 2018 before being cancelled by the streamer. The rights have since reverted back to Marvel, who utilized Cox’s version of the character in last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, prompting more calls to see the actor return to the universe in full.

Cox has since broken his silence on the cameo return in No Way Home, saying that he jumped at the chance to return and hoped to do so again in a much larger capacity. While doing interviews for his role in the TV series Kin on AMC+, Cox has continued to tease that he knows “something” about the future plans for his Daredevil/Matt Murdock, although obviously can’t let slip what that is. In a recent interview with RadioTimes, Cox let slip yet again that there is more in the works for Daredevil’s return to the MCU, saying only that there is, in fact, “something else on the way. Here’s his full quote:

I know something. I don’t know much, but I know there will be something else.

Charlie Cox Says Something Else Is Coming For His Daredevil MCU Return

Cox is currently starring in Kin, as well as the upcoming British spy thriller series, Treason, with Olga Kurylenko. The actor is best known for his work on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire as Owen Sleater, as well as his role in Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. It was recently announced that all of the Netflix Marvel shows would be leaving the streamer and making their way over to Disney+ (although not in the U.S.), which will give the actor’s signature role as Daredevil a second life for those who missed it initially.

There are a multitude of places that Cox’s Daredevil could show up in the MCU going forward, but the best places for him to pop up would be with street-level characters like Spider-Man, The Punisher, Hawkeye, and, notably, the upcoming Moon Knight series. With his New York roots and more grounded character approach, it would make more sense for Daredevil to appear in crossover form with characters of that nature, but fans are still hungering to see Cox put the costume back on for a proper continuation of the Netflix show, which is by far the best live-action incarnation of the character to date. While it likely couldn’t be as violent or bloody as it was on Netflix, there’s plenty of room to continue the groundwork for Daredevil the show under the new MCU roof, while retaining the edge that made it so special, much of which rests on Cox’s performance. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the return of Daredevil regardless, in whatever capacity it happens.
