Castlevania Gets 35th Anniversary It Deserves In Requiem Physical Release

Castlevania Gets 35th Anniversary It Deserves In Requiem Physical Release

Limited Run Games plans to open pre-orders next week for physical editions of Castlevania Requiem on PS4. Such news comes just in time for Castlevania’s 35th anniversary celebrations (in North America), which Konami chose to partake in by launching an NFT auction. Suffice it to say, fans of the seminal franchise didn’t take too kindly to the news, resulting in the publisher facing widespread backlash.

Konami published Castlevania Requiem digitally on PS4 in October 2018, supplying fans and newcomers alike with a two-game collection comprised of 1993’s Rondo of Blood and 1997’s Symphony of the Night. This otherwise welcomed re-release caused quite the stir upon its launch, due in large part to Konami’s reliance on the PSP versions. The ruckus essentially stemmed from the fact that each PSP build featured a few modifications that upset purists – new voice actors and script changes, in particular. Castlevania Requiem still serves as the simplest way to experience Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night on modern platforms, though. And soon, PS4 players will receive yet another mode of access to the classics.

Earlier this week, Limited Run Games announced physical versions of Castlevania Requiem that will come to PS4 in the form of Standard, Classic, and Ultimate editions. A six-week pre-order period begins on Friday, January 14 at 10:00 AM ET, the company confirmed via Twitter post. Priced at $64.99, the Classic Edition boasts the game, retro-style box, soundtrack CD, and an 18″ x 14″ reversible poster. The $175 Ultimate Edition features all of the Classic Edition contents, as well as exclusive memorabilia including a foil-stamped Save Point Coffin box, steelbook case, alternate double-sided game cover, Vampire Killer Chain pin, Alucard’s Sword and Shield replicas, and a numbered certificate of authenticity.

While Castlevania’s 35th anniversary officially came and went in 2021, the upcoming physical versions from Limited Run Games seem the perfect way for North American audiences to celebrate the brand’s 1987 western release. But because Castlevania Requiem only launched on PS4, other platforms won’t have the option to honor the series in kind.

Fortunately, players across PC and all three major console platforms can enjoy the most recent Castlevania compilation, which hit digital stores as Castlevania Advance Collection in September 2021. For $19.99, the Advance Collection offers access to Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow, and Dracula X.
