Castles & Cottages: The Homes Of Our Favorite Disney Characters, Ranked By Where We’d Want To Live

The magic of Disney lies in the compelling characters, their incredible journeys, and of course, the dreamlike settings that they live in. Whether they’re princesses or heroes or something in between, most Disney characters end up living in places that truly make the heartbeat just a little bit faster.

There’s no shortage of castles and palaces in the Disney universe, each one more beautiful than the last. But sometimes, it’s the more modest and simple Disney homes, like the thatched-roof cottages, that make the story all the more enchanting. Read on to see a ranking of the homes of the main Disney characters.

Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs: The Witch’s Castle

Castles & Cottages: The Homes Of Our Favorite Disney Characters, Ranked By Where We’d Want To Live

If it weren’t for Snow White’s stepmother, the Evil Queen, the castle that appears in the movie would appear a lot higher on this list. It’s a stunning building with a regal vibe and it must boast spectacular views of the land. Not bad!

That said, because the Evil Queen does live there, and conducts all her evil plotting and potion-making there, the castle isn’t the best place in the Disney universe to live.

The Little Mermaid: Atlantica

The Kingdom of Atlantica as seen in The Little Mermaid

At the end of The Little Mermaid, Ariel escapes the ocean and becomes a full-time human so she can live happily ever after with Prince Eric. It’s fair enough that Ariel isn’t happy in the ocean because her heart craves the land, but objectively speaking, King Triton’s Atlantica isn’t a terrible place to live.

It certainly seems like a magical place. If one could survive underwater, there’s no reason why King Triton’s palace in Atlantica wouldn’t be a great place to call home.

The Lion King: Pride Rock

First and foremost, Pride Rock is not a place for humans. Any humans who attempt to mark their territory in the Pride Lands will probably be devoured quite quickly! But for lions, Pride Rock seems like quite an ideal place to live.

There’s plenty of space, plenty of fresh air, lots of shelter, and one heck of a view. Unless Scar is on the throne, Pride Rocks seems pretty great.

Pinocchio: Geppetto’s Shop

Geppetto’s shop and home is quite a bit more modest than some of the abodes of the other Disney characters. But that’s exactly what makes it so appealing. Its simplicity makes it charming and quaint. Living here really would be like stepping into a fairytale!

The little Italian town where Geppetto’s shop is located is also wonderfully picturesque. Real or not, it seems like such a peaceful place to live.

Lady & The Tramp: Jim Dear And Darling’s Home

Jim Dear and Darling’s home in The Lady and the Tramp is only ever shown from Lady’s point of view, but it’s clear that this would be a beautiful place to live.

There are homes like this in the real world too, but most people only dream of affording them. The spacious and grand old house provides plenty of room and just the right amount of luxury without being too extravagant.

Sleeping Beauty: The Woodcutter’s Cottage

The castle where Princess Aurora eventually dances the night away with Prince Philip is magnificent but the home that seems the most appealing in this classic Disney tale is actually the woodcutter’s cottage where Aurora grows up.

There’s something about the thatched roof, the surrounding trees, and the idyllic bridge that makes this cottage seem like it was taken straight out of a storybook.

Brave: Merida’s Castle

The Dunbroch castle in the Highlands in Brave

Merida’s castle from Brave seems to be less extravagant than the other Disney castles. It seems to be less grand and more realistic, but it would still be an ideal place to live. The main drawing point of this Scottish castle is the stunning surrounding countryside.

Anyone who has visited the Scottish countryside in real life can vouch for this: having a landscape like that at the fingertips is worth living anywhere at all.

The Aristocats: Madame Bonfamile’s Mansion

A huge mansion in the middle of Paris? Yes, please! Duchess and her kittens might only take up very little room in Madame Bonfamile’s mansion, but it’s clear that they seem content there.

Although the mansion would get lonely at times, living in such a phenomenal place would be a blessing. It would be even more tempting to move into this mansion if Madame hired a new butler!

Aladdin: The Sultan’s Palace

Out of all the castles and palaces that appear in the Disney universe, the Sultan’s Palace in Agrabah is one of the most impressive. Both the exterior and the interior are divine, but the most captivating part of the palace has to be the gardens.

Jasmine is seen here early on in the film before she decides to escape the palace. It definitely seems like a heaven on Earth!

Cinderella: Prince Charming’s Castle

Prince Charming’s castle in Cinderella is just that little bit more magical than all the other castles in the Disney universe. The fact that Cinderella gets to spend the rest of her life living in a place like this definitely stirs a little jealousy!

It’s no wonder Disney chose this castle to serve as the inspiration for the main castle in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
