The cast for Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi action flick Pacific Rim continues to grow, with character actor Clifton Collins Jr. becoming the latest addition to the cast of the giant monster movie.

Meanwhile, Jonah Hill looks to re-team with Superbad screenwriting duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on Neighborhood Watch, an action-comedy that will also feature Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn.

Neighborhood Watch is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2012; Pacific Rim won’t be arriving until almost a year afterwards. The latter is definitely the more eagerly-anticipated of the pair right now, if only because it marks del Toro’s first outing in the director’s chair since 2008’s Hellboy sequel.

Clifton Collins Jr. as the Romulan Ayel in ‘Star Trek’

You may not recognize the name Clifton Collins Jr., but you’ve probably seen his face somewhere before. The well-regarded actor has previously popped up on TV shows like The Event, CSI: NY, and Alias – not to mention, his supporting turns in titles like Star Trek, Tigerland, TrafficCrank: High Voltage, and his amusing cameo as a member of the Vegan Police in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Now, according to Variety, he’ll add Pacific Rim to his resume.

Stars like Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Idris Elba (Thor), and Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) are headlining Pacific Rim, which is a futuristic tale about the war between humanity and “25 foot tall monsters” that enter our world through a portal, located in the (you guessed it) Pacific Ocean. The supporting cast also includes notable stars like Rinko Kikuchi, Willem Dafoe, and Robert Kazinsky, among others.

Pacific Rim scriber Travis Beacham’s resume includes co-writing credits on the lesser-known drama Dog Days of Summer and last year’s Clash of the Titans remake. Early word about his screenplay for del Toro’s grand-scale monster movie has been quite positive, which is good news for those who are concerned about the elements from classic sci-fi titles Pacific Rim appears to be borrowing.

Jonah Hill in Moneyball

Jonah Hill has dropped several pounds for his role in the upcoming 21 Jump Street movie (watch the intro to the Sitter red band trailer, for proof of that) and looks to expand his horizons by appearing in the unusual sports drama Moneyball later this year.

Those more interested in Hill’s comedic efforts will be glad to hear that (according to Heat Vision) he’s in negotiations to join Neighborhood Watch. As mentioned before, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn are co-starring in the film as suburban dads who form a “neighborhood watch” group, in order to spend some time away from their families and hang out together…that is, until the pack of middle-aged men have to thwart an evil plot that would destroy the world.

Saturday Night Live alumnus Akiva Schaffer is helming Neighborhood Watch, which sounds like a fast-flying mix of broad comedy and action, similar to Rogen and Goldberg’s previous scripting efforts (especially Pineapple Express and The Green Hornet). It doesn’t sound like a must-see title, all things considered, but it could make for some good summer popcorn movie fun.

Neighborhood Watch will arrive in U.S. theaters on July 27th, 2012.

Pacific Rim is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on July 12th, 2013.
