Casting Chopper For One Piece Season 2: 10 Actors Who Would Be Perfect

The second season of Netflix’s One Piece will debut many new and exciting characters, with Tony Tony Chopper being one of the most interesting among the bunch. Since One Piece‘s second season is still in development, it will only be a matter of time before Chopper and the wealth of other unique characters who appear during the Arabasta Arc make their live-action debut. Notable for his reindeer appearance and perpetually optimistic worldview, Chopper’s inclusion in the live-action One Piece will present unique challenges for Netflix to overcome reagrding a faithful depiction of the medic.

In the One Piece source material, Chopper was also depicted as someone who struggles with matters relating to his self-esteem and confidence, since he was bullied by his fellow reindeer after inheriting his Hito Hito no Mi Devil Fruit, which grants him the ability to develop a human-like appearance. Nevertheless, Chopper endeared himself to audiences early in One Piece because of his great displays of bravery and loyalty to his fellow Straw Hat Pirates. With many talented actors and voice actors, there are many suitable candidates for Chopper in the live-action One Piece.

Cameron Crovetti

The Boys’ Ryan demonstrates Crovetti’s ability to convincingly depict Chopper’s emotional qualities.

Although more recognizable for his work on the Amazon Prime show, The Boys, Corvetti’s body of work extends back to his TV debut in a 2017 episode of Black-ish. As demonstrated by his appearances in Black-ish, The Gray Man, Big Little Lies, and The Boys, Corvetti possesses the ability to portray both sensitive characters and young boys wrestling with issues relating to self-image and self-worth. While The Boys demonstrates more of Corvetti’s dramatic acting via Ryan, it also provides glimpses into what he could do voicing over Chopper.

Jacob Tremblay

Tremblay’s voice acting experience with similar characters makes him a strong Chopper contender.

Jacob Tremblay as Luca Paguro transforms into a sea creature in Luca.

Similar to Corvetti, Tremblay is another rising talent from Canada who, despite his young age, has already built an impressive body of work. Having made his acting debut in the 2013 TV series, Motive, Tremblay has remained consistent for over a decade, and his talents have spread across film, TV, and animation. Perhaps the strongest examples of what he could do with Chopper can best be heard in Luca and Orion and the Dark. In both movies, he portrays young boys who endear themselves by overcoming specific fears – something that would be perfect for Chopper.

Ariana Greenblatt

Greenblatt’s extensive work in film and television give her the necessary experience to be a solid Chopper.

Greenblatt made her acting debut in the 2015 TV series, Liv and Maddie, as Raina, and has remained booked and busy for nearly a decade. With roles ranging from insecure teenagers to confident allies on the battlefield as seen in Ahsoka, 65, and the upcoming Borderlands, Greenblatt is one of her generation’s most versatile actresses. Moreover, her work in Scoob! and the Boss Baby franchise already demonstrates what she can do voice-over-wise, so Chopper wouldn’t be out of her depth. Additionally, Chopper is voiced by women in the source material, so Greenblatt’s voice wouldn’t be out of place either.

7
Ashleigh Ball

Ball’s versatile work in the animated Barbie and My Little Pony movies demonstrates her impressive range.

Ball’s extensive career in film, television, and music has helped hone her skills through the years while also making her one of the industry’s most in-demand voice actresses. Among her more notable credits are the animated Barbie movies as various characters and the My Little Pony franchise as Applejack among many other characters. With a vocal range that allows her to convincingly portray voices perfectly apt for little girls to more courageous sounding women, Ball has demonstrated time and again throughout her career why she would make an excellent Chopper.

Grey DeLisle Is Catwoman In Batman Arkham Video Games, Infinite Crisis

DeLisle’s range has seen her voice Catwoman in the Arkham video games, Arcee in the live-action Transformer movies, and even characters from The Simpsons, such as Martin Prince. With her ability to breathe life into characters both male and female, DeLisle would bring the necessary traits of both genders to her performance as Chopper should she be cast for the role.

Jennifer Hale

Hale’s extensive career has seen her voice characters from Japanese video games.

Bayonetta Using Gun Skill in Bayonetta 3

Hale made her acting debut in the 1988 TV movie, A Father’s Homecoming, and has remained a consistent force in various parts of the entertainment industry. With onscreen and voice-over credits covering TV, film, video games, and animation, Hale has demonstrated her incredible range for over three decades. Perhaps the most compelling thing about her possible casting as Chopper is her familiarity with Japanese media and entertainment. From the Metroid franchise to the Bayonetta series, Hale is very familiar with Japan’s sensibilities, which would help her deliver a strong performance as Chopper.

4
Tabitha St. Germain

St. Germain has experience voicing characters similar to Chopper.

My Little Pony The Movie poster

Tabitha St. Germain’s earliest voice-over credit is as Asha in the 1985 animated TV show, Ewoks. Since then, St. Germain has made appearances in various live-action TV shows, movies, and short films, further demonstrating her range beyond voice-over work. Nevertheless, St. Germain has voiced plenty of characters who share similar qualities to Chopper, such as Berry 2 and Raspberry Tart from the Strawberry Shortcake franchise. With her familiarity with characters similar to Chopper, St. Germain feels like a natural fit for the reindeer.

3
Cree Summer

Summer’s unique voice would be a perfect fit for Chopper’s unique appearance.

Cree’s career extends as far back as 1983, with her voice as Penny in Inspector Gadget ranking among one of her earliest credits. Since then, Summer has delivered memorable performances in various TV shows, movies, animated series, and video games, further highlighting her commitment to her craft. Although many of Summer’s characters tend to be suave, confident, and natural leaders, she could still bring some of those traits to Chopper, since Luffy, Usopp, and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates help him develop a more positive self-image. Additionally, Summer’s unique vocal quality would help Chopper stand out more.

2
Tara Strong

Strong’s expertise at voicing timid characters suits Chopper’s personality.

The Fairly OddParents Timmy riding a pizza

Perhaps one of the most famous voice actresses from Canada, Strong is best-known for her work as Timmy Turner in The Fairly OddParents franchise, Harley Quinn both in and out of the Batman Arkham video games, and as Twilight Sparkle in the My Little Pony franchise. While Strong has developed an impressive body of work through the years, her work as Timmy is arguably the strongest example of why she’d be perfect for Chopper. The characters share similar personality traits, yearn to prove themselves to others, and are beloved by their respective audiences.

The Fairly OddParents

Nickelodeon’s Fairly OddParents, conceived by Danny Phantom creator Butch Hartman, revolves around teenage boy Timmy Turner’s adventures with his fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda, his friendship with classmates AJ and Chester, and his attempts to escape his mean babysitter Vicky and his cruel teacher Denzel Crocker. It aired from 2001 to 2017 with 10 seasons and 172 episodes.

1
Brina Palencia

Palencia voices Chopper in the American dub of One Piece.

Palencia’s work in video games, TV shows, and animated shows both from America and Japan perfectly demonstrates why she’s the best choice to voice Chopper in One Piece. Moreover, Palencia voices Chopper in the American dub of One Piece, and has done so since 2007. Much of why Chopper is so beloved among the series’ audience is because of her ability to make Chopper both seamlessly childlike and brave, all while being fun to watch. Although nothing is confirmed, Palencia’s successful work with Chopper in various media makes her the best choice for the live-action One Piece.
