New behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the Sex and the City reboot series, And Just Like That… show Carrie and Big returning to Paris. The upcoming HBO show will see Sarah Jessica Parker return in her role as author Carrie Bradshaw, while Chris Noth will also appear as Carrie’s on-again-off-again boyfriend turned husband, John James Preston (aka “Big”). Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are also reprising their roles as Charlotte Yorke Goldenblatt and Miranda Hobbs, respectively. However, one member of the iconic foursome from the original series, Kim Cattrall, won’t be returning, citing off-screen issues with her co-stars (particularly Jessica Parker).
The original Sex and the City series proved a massive hit for HBO, running for six seasons and spawning two spin-off films, Sex and the City in 2008 and Sex and the City 2 in 2010. While critically-panned, the movies were beloved by many fans who were eager to see the next installment in the lives of Carrie and her friends. HBO decided to capitalize on the ongoing love for the SATC franchise with a spin-off sequel, announcing the new show And Just Like That… in January. A recent teaser trailer for the upcoming series showed Jessica Parker and the rest of the cast filming in New York City, and confirmed its release date for December of this year.
Now, new behind-the-scenes set photos have teased more of the reboot’s story. Images shared by The Daily Mail show Jessica Parker and Noth as their lovebird characters filming on location in Paris. While details for the plot of And Just Like That… have largely been kept under wraps, previous teaser trailers and images have seemed to suggest that the couple is still very happy years down the road from their last appearance in Sex and the City 2. The new images seem to confirm this, as Jessica Parker and Noth are seen filming on the famous Passerelle des Arts bridge over the River Seine, embracing and looking very much in love.
Loyal SATC fans will recognize the City of Love as an important spot for the pair, serving as the site of Big and Carrie’s long-awaited reunion in the season 6 finale. In the show’s final episode, Big comes to Carrie’s rescue after her messy break-up with Russian artist Aleksandr Petrovsky (played by real-life famed dancer, Mikhail Baryshnikov). While Carrie had initially uprooted her life to follow Petrovsky to Paris, she ultimately finds herself miserable and missing her friends – and Big – back in New York.
Fans will no doubt be very happy to see Carrie and Mr. Big still together after a tumultuous relationship across the show’s six seasons, which also saw rocky times across both movie sequels. Ultimately, however, these photos seem to suggest that the drama may finally be over for the couple. What the pair are doing back in Paris remains to be seen, though it’s certainly possible that Carrie and Big have made the move over to the city permanently, given their shared affection for it. If Carrie’s relationship does prove solid in And Just Like That…, it’s likely the complications will come from another source; quite possibly due to new dynamics brought on by the newest addition to Carrie’s core friendship group, played by Nicole Ari Parker. Whether Sex and the City loyalists will take to the newcomer as Samantha’s pseudo-replacement is another question entirely.
