A new depiction of killer-symbiote Carnage turns him completely into Cthulhu. Since his quest to become Marvel’s newest god began, Carnage has become a scarier presence in Marvel than ever. His solo journey without serial killer Cletus Kasady as his host has built him up as a serious threat to the Marvel Universe. Now, new artwork from one of Marvel’s best artists has given him his most terrifying form yet.
Artist Peach Momoko recently shared her interpretation of Carnage’s new place in the Marvel Universe. Fans of cosmic horror progenitor H.P. Lovecraft will immediately recognize Momoko’s inspiration; Carnage’s iconic razor-sharp teeth have been replaced by eerie tentacles, forming a kind of beard hanging just below his eyes. Behind him are a series of sharp tendrils that accentuate his terrifying new form as the symbiote’s residue continues to peel off him similar to a flame.
There’s no mistaking that Momoko has reached into the Necronomicon to give Carnage this Cthulhu-inspired look. It’s the perfect crossover for his character, knowing just how far he’s come in his story as Marvel’s scariest symbiote.

Peach Momoko the artist behind Marvel’s Demon Wars series. What makes this new Carnage artwork byMomoko so noteworthy is that it acknowledges just how far the character has come. For years, he was simply seen as a red offspring of Venom, working in tandem with Cletus Kasady. He was more violent, and was often featured in bloodier stories. However, when the Carnage symbiote separated from Kasady, his quest for godhood took him on a darker path. He began killing various Marvel villains, including Hydroman and Spot, in order to gain their powers and make himself even stronger, in order to achieve supreme cosmic power.
Now, he has become a ruthless god-level killing machine after a ferocious battle with the King in Black where he was crowned the Ultimate Symbiote Killer. Nothing can stand in his way now, and by giving him a form that mirrors the Lovecraftian chaos god Cthulhu, Momoko has perfectly encapsulated just how powerful Carnage is. Compare this design to Momoko’s previous twist on the killer symbiote. Demon Wars #1: The Iron Samurai – by Peach Momoko and Zack Davisson – depicts Carnage meditating in a cave. His home is blocked off by a rope to prevent villagers from entering and interrupting him, but the way he’s depicted hints at an animal lying in wait.

Demon Wars Carnage exists in a state of equilibrium with the world outside his cave. As long as no one bothers him, he will not bother them. It’s clear now this version of Carnage was simply biding his time, waiting for an opportunity to strike. Now, his updated Cthulhu form is the ultimate confirmation that Momoko’s Demon Wars Carnage is no more, as he has become more powerful than anyone could possibly imagine. Peach Momoko’s design for the killer symbiote is the perfect reflection of where Carnage currently lies in the Marvel Universe. However, with Cletus Kasady returning in the upcoming Carnage series, it will be interesting to see where Carnage goes next.
