Below Deck Mediterranean star Captain Sandy Yawn isn’t staying quiet about the misogyny she sees in her fellow Below Deck franchise star Captain Lee Rosbach. Captain Sandy, who is currently appearing on Below Deck Mediterranean season 8, hasn’t been a fan of Captain Lee for the majority of her time in the franchise. She is known for her militant approach to her crew, sometimes micromanaging the staff of her ships to the point that they find it difficult to work with her. Her style is vastly different from Captain Lee, but regardless, Captain Sandy has been successful in her career and enjoys her time on Below Deck Med.
In a recent interview with TVInsider, Captain Sandy called Captain Lee out for the way he’s directed his alleged misogyny at her through their years of knowing each other, saying, “Captain Lee from day one has never supported me. I think he is a man in a man’s world who doesn’t like a woman being a captain.” Captain Sandy is “proud of what I do. I work very hard to get to the helm.” Sandy shared that she doesn’t need Lee’s support, explaining, “He doesn’t weigh in on my captaining. He is not the captain of all captains.”
Why Are Captains Sandy & Lee Feuding?
Although Captain Lee and Captain Sandy have been friendly in the past, their feud has been ongoing since they were both brought into the Below Deck franchise. It’s clear that the pair sees eye-to-eye as captains but don’t have much else in common outside of their shared love of the sea. The captains have taken jabs at each other in the past, with Lee often insulting Sandy, allegedly due to her gender, even though he’s done his best to say he respects that she’s a woman in the industry. Lee has publicly questioned Sandy’s abilities in captaining a crew, which was doubly insulting considering she was there for him in a time of need.
Although Sandy has made her position clear when it comes to Captain Lee, she doesn’t have to worry about him invading her space when it comes to Below Deck Med. Captain Sandy has been the sole captain since Below Deck Med season 2 and has provided an interesting alternate perspective on how super yacht captaining can be as a woman in an industry full of men. Captain Sandy’s perspective has been fresh throughout her time on Below Deck Med, even with the adversity she’s faced both at the hands of her critics and peers like Captain Lee.
Although Captain Lee and Captain Sandy seem to have their issues, they’ve managed to keep their relationship professional throughout their time on Below Deck. While Captain Lee wasn’t invited back for Below Deck season 11, Captain Sandy has continued on with Below Deck Med and works diligently throughout her time with the franchise. Speaking out about the way she’s been treated in the past is refreshing, and Below Deck Med has been supportive of her at the helm.
