Captain America Has A Truly Humiliating Connection With Emma Frost

Warning: SPOILERS for Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8Marvel Comics reveals that not even the usually stern and uptight Captain America is immune to the charms of the White Queen, Emma Frost. After their meeting at the last Hellfire Gala, when Steve Rogers has to ask for a favor that requires Emma’s special talents, the only thing he has to do is to think loudly of a very, very embarrassing word.

It’s hard to find two Marvel heroes who are more opposites than Captain America and Emma Frost. Despite all the time he spent in the modern world, the Sentinel of Liberty is still a man who grew up in the 1940s. While not exactly a prude, Cap still has a certain uptightness about him, which is of course part of his charm. On the other hand, Emma Frost is known for her revealing, barely legal outfits, and she has no qualms about using her impressive looks to take advantage of others. These differences, however, do not stop them to work together when the need arises.

In Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8, by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Carmen Carnero, and Nolan Woodard, Steve Rogers finds himself in a predicament that requires the intervention of an expert. Captain America and his new team have been kidnapped by the Outer Circle and their brains have been tampered with by a new villain called M.O.D.O.C., who erased five days from their memory. To find out what happened, Steve calls in a favor from Emma Frost. After their chat at the Hellfire Gala, Emma offered Captain America the option to call upon her help by simply thinking loudly of a specific word. However, the word that Emma chose is “mommy“, which makes Steve incredibly embarrassed.

Emma Frost Is Now Captain America’s “Mommy

It suits Emma’s style to offer someone a favor, but also make the whole process awkward. Emma is not just a powerful mutant and X-Men leader with diamond skin and Omega Class telepathy, but an expert manipulator who charmed and guiled her way through the upper echelons of both human and mutant society. She must be aware of the key role that Steve’s mom played in his life, and this is why she chose that word as the key to this telepathic phone call. It’s a reminder for Captain America that Emma knows a lot about his personal life, which is just another way to make Steve feel vulnerable in this transaction. For an instant, Captain America will think of Emma Frost as his “mommy”, and this is exactly what the White Queen wants.

However, it must be said that Emma has no villainous intention. Captain America has proved to be one of the foremost allies of Krakoa and a stalwart defendant of mutant freedom and independence. During the Judgment Day affair, Steve’s support was so valued by Krakoa that Captain America was the first non-mutant resurrected by the Resurrection Protocols. It’s clear that Emma just wanted to pull his leg a little and take a chance to embarrass an uptight man. Luckily for Steve, this little embarrassing connection will remain a secret between Captain America and Emma Frost.
