Captain America & Dr. Strange Form Marvel’s SOLDIER SUPREME

Captain America & Dr. Strange Form Marvel’s SOLDIER SUPREME

What would it look like if Marvel’s Captain America and Doctor Strange were one and the same, merged together into one superhero? Thanks to 2018’s Infinity Wars event, fans get to find out and meet Soldier Supreme, the mystical captain in service to the US army during WWII. In Soldier Supreme, a two-issue spin-off from the main Infinity Wars storyline, the origins of Steve Rogers and Stephen Strange and merged into on hybrid tale, complete with merges allies and villains as well. Read on to learn more.

The whole reason for this intriguing character hybridization comes from none other than the Infinity Stones. However, instead of the Stones being in the hands of Thanos, with half of all life being erased from existence, his daughter Gamora get a hold of the Stones, and rather fold the universe in half, combining people and events together. New heroes are created, being made from mixtures of two original Marvel superheroes: Iron Man and Thor become Iron Hammer, Spider-Man and Moon Knight become Arachknight, among others such as Soldier Supreme (arguably one of the more interesting combination)

In this new folded universe Soldier Supreme is set in, Stephen Rogers volunteers to serve his country during the onset of WWII. Agreeing to be part of an experimental program to create the best soldiers for the war effort, project leader Dr. Erskine mixes magic and the arcane along with science, creating some fantastic results. Not only does Rogers become a prime specimen of peak human physicality and strength, but he also can now tap into the mystic arts, able to project energy shields and cast spells, much to the governments’s surprise.

Because the government was more than happy with Erskine’s results, Rogers became their Soldier Supreme, leading the Howling Commandos of Hoggoth into battle alongside Dum Dum Fury and best friend Bucky Wong (Marvel character hybrids themselves). Near the end of the war, and after Hitler’s death, Rogers came face to face with Hitler’s dark priest, Dormammu Red (a mix of Dormammu and Red Skull). While Rogers and Wong manage to defeat Red, it’s not before he banishes Rogers to the Dark Dimension, where he remains trapped for decades (not unlike when Captain America was trapped in the ice). Thanks to an accidental summoning from MORDOC, Mental Organism Ritually Designed for the Occult, Rogers is able to escape, now in the present. With his developed skills during his banishment, Rogers spends some time in a Sanctum in Brooklyn. When he discovers the truth about himself and his universe, Rogers answers the call, joining other heroes to set things right.

While it didn’t last very long, Soldier Supreme reveals a pretty fun and interesting concept, blending two pretty different characters. While they both have their merits and strengths, Captain America is a much more grounded characters as opposed to Doctor Strange. To see their origins combined into one is pretty entertaining. While it’s good that the universe is eventually reset to how it should be, it’s still fun wonder what other adventures the Solider Supreme might have had in what was a halved Marvel universe.
