Captain America 4 Title Revealed: Sam Wilson Takes On New World Order

The title for Captain America 4 has been announced by Marvel Studios at San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel Studios surprised audiences with the announcement of Captain America 4 shortly after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier concluded. While Thor: Love and Thunder made Thor the first Marvel solo hero to get a fourth film, Captain America 4 presents a way to continue the franchise with a new actor and character taking over the mantle just like in the comics.

Anthony Mackie is reprising his role as Sam Wilson, formerly the Falcon and now the all-new Captain America. Cloverfield Paradox’s Julius Onah will direct the film, with Malcolm Spellman returning as the writer after having written The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While initial reports suggest that Marvel Studios would not make any major announcements at San Diego Comic-Con, instead favoring the big new announcements and reveals for D23 in September 2023. Marvel Studios came to Comic-Con and certainly didn’t disappoint fans as they revealed the title for Captain America 4 alongside plenty of other major announcements.

At San Diego Comic-Con during the Marvel Studios panel, it was officially confirmed that the title for Captain America 4 is Captain America: New World Order. Story details are waiting to come out for what exactly the subtitle New World Order means. Interestingly, the title ‘New World Order’ was also the name of the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The film will open in theaters on May 3, 2024, as part of Phase 5 and kick off the summer movie season for 2024.

Captain America 4 Title Revealed: Sam Wilson Takes On New World Order

Aside from Captain America: The First Avenger the two sequels, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, drew from specific Marvel Comics runs. While New World Order is not a reference to a specific Marvel comic series, it is an organization in the comics first introduced in The Incredible Hulk #403 in 1993. Notably, the organization was founded by the Red Skull, who appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger played by Hugo Weaving, and both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame with Ross Marquand taking over the role. This might suggest or hint at the possible plot of the film and the return of the classic Captain America villain.

Captain America: New World Order also has the opportunity to tie up other plot threads across the MCU, specifically those in the Captain America franchise, with the biggest being Sharon Carter. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended with the tease of Sharon Carter, aka the Power Broker beginning a bigger power move in the MCU, and as she was the one behind the Flag Smasher’s it could be that was Phase 1 of her plan. A new comic accurate look for Sharon Carter was teased in promotional material for San Diego Comic-Con, and Captain America: New World Order is now officially a go, but there will certainly be more announcements to come.
