Captain America 4 Release Date Set For May 2024

Over a year after he took up the mantle, Marvel announces the Captain America 4 release date for Anthony Mackie’s return as the titular hero. Previously introduced as the Falcon, Mackie’s Sam Wilson became the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America at the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The Disney+ series had followed Sam as he struggled with Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers passing the torch onto him at the end of Avengers: Endgame before ultimately electing to take on the mantle and strive for positive social changes.

Development on Captain America 4 was announced the day of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s finale, with the show’s creator Malcolm Spellman and writer Dalan Musson brought on to pen the script. Though expected to see the star return, Mackie wasn’t confirmed to lead the film until a few months later and has provided teases of his preparation for the highly-anticipated MCU sequel. With over a year gone since it was first revealed to be in the works, audiences are finally getting a few concrete details on Captain America 4.

As part of the studio’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, of which Screen Rant was in attendance, Marvel has revealed the Captain America 4 release date: May 3, 2024. The MCU sequel has also been given the official title, Captain America: New World Order. At the time of writing, no filming start date has been announced for the Anthony Mackie-led film.

Though Captain America 4‘s release date ultimately puts the film at the tail end of MCU’s Phase Four, the confirmation that it is less than two years away from hitting the big screen is sure to come as exciting news for fans of the franchise. Interestingly, it will also be nearly a decade since a prior film with the Captain America title hit theaters, the last being 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, whose story events ultimately tied into Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, the latter of which saw Evans’ swan song as Steve in the MCU. While it may be nearly two years away, the confirmation that Captain America 4‘s release is set for 2024 does indicate a large amount of progress having been made behind-the-scenes on the MCU film.

News of Captain America 4 scoring a 2024 release date also comes two weeks after Julius Onah, The Cloverfield Paradox and Luce director, had been brought on board to helm Sam Wilson’s first solo MCU film. With Mackie hinting earlier this year that he had begun preparation to begin filming, it seems likely a production start date for Captain America: New World Order is sure to be announced some time in the near future, potentially in time for the D23 Expo returning this fall. In the meantime, audiences can revisit Sam’s evolution into Captain America with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier streaming on Disney+ now.
