The global opening weekend of Argylle pales in comparison to its huge budget. The $200 million spy movie from Apple Original Films and director Matthew Vaughn, is allegedly a meta adaptation of the real book of the same name by the mysterious and potentially non-existent Elly Conway. In the movie, Bryce Dallas Howard plays Conway herself, who gets caught up in a globetrotting adventure when her spy novel about Agent Argylle (Henry Cavill) proves to have unintended, prescient insight into actual espionage operations.
Per Deadline, the Argylle box office is projected to end its opening weekend with a 3-day worldwide total of $35 million. This is enough to make it No. 1 at the box office, but hardly makes a dent in the movie’s $200 million budget. That total also makes it the lowest-grossing opening for one of Apple’s recent movie releases at that budget level, behind Killers of the Flower Moon ($44 million) and Napoleon ($78.8 million over Thanksgiving weekend).
