Some fans prefer to watch every single episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, as they think that even some lackluster moments add character development and lots of context. But other viewers believe that some episodes can be skipped every time someone rewatches the supernatural young adult series, as these episodes don’t measure up to the more compelling and exciting ones.
From a particularly sad episode that fans find difficult to watch to some others that feel unnecessary and unsatisfying, there are many Buffy episodes that Reddit users recommend that people pass by when binge-watching the show again.
“Beer Bad” (S4, E5)
When it comes to unpopular opinions about Buffy The Vampire Slayer, liking “Beer Bad” is a bold take, as many viewers feel that there’s nothing good about this episode.
Reddit user mikruella posted, “Like many others, I’d skip Beer Bad.” This is definitely an episode that came up a lot on Reddit as one to skip. No one really wanted to see Buffy acting so different from her usual self.
“The Body” (S5, E16)
When it comes to other Buffy episodes that fans prefer to skip when rewatching the series, Reddit user Sionainn said that they don’t like “The Body” because “I’ve only seen that episode once. Cannot and will not watch it again.” Several Redditors agreed, with Reddit user metaphoricalgoldstar saying, “Beautifully done episode, but not one I can rewatch casually.”
Watching Buffy lose her mom Joyce is too much for some viewers, and it’s true that this is an absolutely heartbreaking moment in the series. It’s particularly hard to see how it affects Dawn since she is so young.
“Ted” (S2, E11)
In the season 2 episode “Ted,” Joyce is dating Ted, and Buffy and viewers alike think that something is off with him. Ted ends up learning about Buffy’s secret when he reads her journal and he blackmails her.
Reddit user happy_wallflower said that they don’t love skipping episodes but “the more I re-watch the more tempting it gets” to not watch “Ted.” Several fans agreed, with Reddit user captainlavender adding that they skip episodes with “really frustrating things happening to people.” It’s tough to watch Joyce be taken in by such a jerk, and it feels unsatisfying that Ted is a robot who has been looking for people who seem like Ted’s previous wife who passed away.
“Once More With Feeling” (S6, E7)
While Buffy’s musical episode has fun lyrics, not every fan thinks that this is an enjoyable part of the show, and some would prefer that there was never a musical storyline at all. The main plot is that the characters keep singing because that’s what a demon has forced them to do.
Reddit user Fun_Wonder_4114 posted that they don’t watch “Once More With Feeling” because “I hate 99% of any musical episode.”
“Superstar” (S4, E17)
Reddit user Maxeneize doesn’t like “Superstar” because “I just can’t stand Jonathan.”
Since Jonathan is one of the main characters in this episode, it’s definitely a good idea to skip it if someone isn’t a fan of him. Buffy and Giles ask Jonathan to assist them with a vampire nest. While Jonathan seems to know a lot about what’s going on, it makes sense that not everyone thinks that he’s a great or necessary character.
“Dead Man’s Party” (S3, E2)
Reddit user purplemackem always skips “Dead Man’s Party” because of “the passive aggressive attitude they all have towards Buffy.”
It’s definitely sad to watch Willow have trouble talking to Buffy at the party that takes place in this episode. Buffy returns home after spending time away and she thinks that it might have been better to stay away forever, which is horrible to imagine.
“Go Fish” (S2, E20)
There are several Buffy plotlines that fans dislike, including the season 2 storyline when a sea monster is hurting the school swim team and Buffy tries to help out.
Reddit user light_analysis doesn’t like “Go Fish” and feels that after “the season 2 arch was building so beautifully to the finale,” this episode ruins that. It’s easy to see why some fans would prefer to watch the rest of season 2 and not see this episode again.
“Normal Again” (S6, E17)
One Redditor wrote that they don’t enjoy watching “Normal Again” and said it’s “off and creepy.” Reddit user LegsMcGlasses shared that they dislike that it “opens up the whole ‘it’s all a dream’ explanation for the whole show.”
It makes sense that some fans would dislike “Normal Again” as, thanks to a demon, Buffy thinks that she has been making up everything that has happened to her. It’s difficult to watch Buffy in a hospital believing that none of her experiences while vampire slaying have been real.
“Teacher’s Pet” (S1, E4)
There are some forgettable moments from season 1 of Buffy, along with some unpopular episodes that fans don’t enjoy watching again when they revisit the series. In “Teacher’s Pet,” a new teacher, Natalie French, ends up being a praying mantis who targets people at the school.
Reddit user jawnbaejaeger calls this episode “very skippable,” with Reddit user Afraid-Sky-8186 writing, “Nothing interesting, just your old monster of the week.”
“The Pack” (S1, E6)
In a Reddit thread about season 1 episodes to skip, Reddit user BreakTacticFO suggested “the episode with the hyenas.”
In “The Pack,” Xander and some classmates turn into hyenas, and when the situation is over, Xander says that he can’t recall what happened to him. While Giles is aware that Xander has lied, he protects him. Whether fans dislike this ending or just don’t like the overall plot, it makes sense to skip this episode in favor of some more interesting ones.
