Bryce Dallas Howard has acted in several major franchise movies and worked with many prominent directors throughout her acting career. She is the daughter of famous film director Ron Howard, who has made movies such as Appolo 13 (1995), A Beautiful Mind (2001), Frost/Nixon (2008), and Rush (2013). Born in Los Angeles, Bryce Dallas Howard attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She is also an accomplished director, having directed three episodes of The Mandalorian.

10 Terminator Salvation (2009)

Kate Connor

Christian Bale as John Connor holding a gun in Terminator Salvation.

Bryce Dallas Howard entered the Terminator franchise in 2009, playing Kate Connor, the wife of John Connor (Christian Bale). There were high hopes for Terminator Salvation, especially with a talent like Bale attached fresh off his Batman performance in The Dark Knight. The film is certainly enjoyable and entertaining, especially because of the digital effects and impressive action sequences. However, it ultimately falls flat compared to the integrity of the first two original Terminator movies as director McG misses the mark with the overall lack of tone and style in the narrative.

9 The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)

Victoria

One of the better installments of the Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010) features Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria, who was recast between The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009). The Twilight Saga: Eclipse still suffers from many of the common complaints about the movie franchise as a whole, including the poor quality of the screenplay adaptations, the cheap-looking CGI and visual effects, and some pretty flat characters. Compared to other Twilight movies, it’s up there as being one of the funniest and most entertaining.

8 Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Gwen Stacy

Bryce Dallas Howard also entered the world of Marvel in 2007, although she might have been a bit too early as she starred alongside Tobey Maguire in the last installment of his 2000s trilogy. Spider-Man 3 is known for providing the internet with plenty of hilarious memes and offering a look at the villain Venom, which ultimately was revised in the popular Tom Hardy films. Spider-Man 3 is the worst movie out of the Tobey Maguire films but is still a solid watch for fans of the comics and of the classic pre-Marvel superhero genre.

7 Manderlay (2005)

Grace Margaret Mulligan

Howard worked with the renowned director Lars von Trier (Melancholia, Antichrist) in the 2005 movie Manderlay, which told a story about slavery set in the United States in the 1930s. The film is not widely considered one of the director’s best or most popular, but it is full of thought-provoking scenes and intriguing dynamics between Howard’s Grace and a cast that includes Danny Glover and Willem Dafoe. Like most Lars von Trier films, there are some heavy and dark themes that may deter some viewers.

6 The Village (2004)

Ivy Walker

Bryce Dallas Howard’s breakout role was in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village, in which she plays Ivy Walker alongside a remarkable cast. The Village also features performances from Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt, and Brendan Gleeson. The film is quite divisive partially due to its ending, which is not uncommon for a Shyamalan picture. The viewers that do like this film really like it, while others take issue with the directorial style and at times unusual filmmaking style.

5 Jurassic World (2015)

Claire Dearing

Jurassic World Bryce Dallas Howard

In what is likely her most recognizable role due to the staggering box office performance of Jurassic World, Bryce Dallas Howard plays Claire Dearing alongside Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady. The Colin Trevorrow major blockbuster took the world by storm when it was released in theaters in 2015, grossing a remarkable total of $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office. As the eighth highest-grossing movie of all time, it’s disappointing that the franchise has declined since the massive opening start. Howard stars in the other two Jurassic World films.

4 Pete’s Dragon (2016)

Grace

Bryce Dallas Howard in Pete's Dragon

Howard starred as Grace in David Lowrey’s adventure movie Pete’s Dragon alongside Robert Redford. The film was positively reviewed, with several critics calling it one of the best theatrical experiences of the year. Pete’s Dragon is a remake of a movie by the same name that was originally released back in 1977. The modern remake is incredibly wholesome and safe for the whole family to enjoy, making it one of Howard’s better movies.

3 50/50 (2011)

Rachael

Kyle cringes while Adam shaves his head in 50/50

Howard plays Rachael in 50/50, a unique and sharp dark comedy starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The Jonathan Levine film is inspired by a true story of a 27-year-old who gets diagnosed with cancer. The film is an emotional roller coaster built for plenty of laughs and tears alike. Rogen and Gordon-Levitt are in their prime as the film marks one of the few times the two actors have ever worked together. 50/50 has it all, from writing and story to character and humor.

2 The Help (2011)

Hilly Holbrook

Howard starred in the Oscar-winning movie The Help as Hilly Holbrook alongside Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer, and Jessica Chastain. The Help is able to take a historically rooted period piece and make it an incredibly accessible and charming tale that feels modern through the relationships between the outstanding characters. Howard and the cast of The Help make the film better than it might have been otherwise and is truly a feat in ensemble acting.

1 Rocketman (2019)

Sheila

Bryce Dallas Howard’s best movie is 2019’s Rocketman, a biopic starring Taron Egerton about the life and career of singer/songwriter Sir Elton John. The Oscar-winning movie features many Elton John songs and entertaining performances that resemble a similar effect to 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Fans of Elton John’s discography, and of Bryce Dallas Howard’s acting, should look no further than Dexter Flecther’s exceptional Rocketman.
