“Brutal… But That’s The Way It Is”: Baron Harkonnen’s Shifting Allegiance Explained By Dune 2 Star

Dune: Part Two star Stellan Skarsgård teases Baron Harkonnen’s shifting allegiances in Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated sequel. Timothée Chalamet is set to return as Paul Atreides for another adventure on Arrakis this March, with the messianic figure of Frank Herbert’s source material set to be accompanied by a number of newcomers and familiar faces alike. In addition to Skarsgård’s Baron Harkonnen and Dave Bautista’s Glossu Rabban, the Dune: Part Two cast features the introduction of Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, a formidable new enemy.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant ahead of the Dune: Part Two release date, Skarsgård explains why Baron Harkonnen’s allegiances have shifted in the sequel away from Rabban. According to the actor, Feyd-Rautha represents a promising new protégé, of sorts. Check out Skarsgård’s full comment below:

“Beast Rabban has misbehaved, and he doesn’t take care of Arrakis properly. Being the pragmatic man I am, I don’t care about him anymore. It’s brutal for him, but that’s the way it is. Then, when I discover Feyd-Rautha, he almost falls in love with Feyd because he sees an incredible cruelty. He’s almost outsmarted by him and out-bastarded by him. It is very good.

“Having to play with Austin Butler is a true pleasure. He had my own voice. He had learned it. He has learned it from films he’s seen, and when I first came on the set and he talked to me, I said, ‘Is it an echo here? Am I hearing myself?'”

More to come…
