Britney Spears’ Movie Hitting Netflix Has 3 Big Star Trek Actors

Britney Spears’ feature film debut, Crossroads, surprisingly has 3 big Star Trek actors in its cast. Directed by Tamra Davis and written by Shonda Rhimes, Crossroads was released in 2002 at the height of Spears’ pop superstardom and featured Britney’s hit song “I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman.” Although it only garnered 15% on Rotten Tomatoes, Crossroads earned $61 million worldwide from a budget of $10-12 million, and the coming-of-age drama has acquired a cult following in the 22 years since its release.

Remarkably, the cast of Crossroads features 3 actors from Star Trek, one who starred in a Star Trek movie before Crossroads, and two who joined the Star Trek franchise in movies and TV after Crossroads: Kim Cattrall, Zoe Saldaña, and Anson Mount. Crossroads was rereleased in theaters in October 2023 to coincide with the publication of Britney Spears’ autobiography, “The Woman in Me.” Crossroads has never been available to stream, but Netflix has announced that Britney Spears’ movie will arrive on its streaming service on February 15, the same day Crossroads premiered in theaters in 2002. Who’s Who From Star Trek In Britney Spears’ Crossroads

Captain Pike, Lt. Uhura, and Lt. Valeris appear alongside Britney Spears

Zoe Saldaña stars as Kit, who is one of Crossroads‘ three female leads along with Britney Spears’ Lucy and Taryn Manning’s Mimi. Kit is the most popular girl in school who dreams of marrying her fiancé, Dylan (Richard Voll), who attends UCLA, which instigates Kit’s part in the girls’ road trip to the West Coast. 7 years after Crossroads, Saldaña took on the iconic role of Lt. Uhura in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond en route to becoming one of the highest-grossing actresses in Hollywood thanks to her roles in James Cameron’s Avatar and as Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Anson Mount stars as Ben, the male lead of Crossroads, which was one of Mount’s first film roles. An aspiring musician, Ben becomes Lucy’s love interest. Mount went on to star in Hell on Wheels on AMC before joining Star Trek: Discovery season 2 in 2018 as Captain Christopher Pike, who proved so popular that Mount now headlines Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+ as Captain Pike. Finally, Kim Cattrall plays Caroline, Lucy’s birth mother who abandoned her. In 1991, Cattrall played the duplicitous Vulcan Lt. Valeris in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. With all of that Star Trek firepower in Crossroads, the question is, will Star Trek ever return the favor and bring Britney Spears into the final frontier?
