Bridgerton Season 2: The Ages & Relationship Status Of The Main Characters

Bridgerton Season 2: The Ages & Relationship Status Of The Main Characters

Interest in Regency Era times and social norms has been piqued yet again since the release of the sophomore season of Bridgerton on Netflix. Besides the aristocracy, facets of life like courtship, marriage, and women’s rights were very different in the 19th century, and fans now want to know just how old were the Bridgertons and other people of the ton when the “season” time rolled around.

Women were considered ripe for marriage much earlier than the men of the ton, who were given a free pass no matter how old they were. The Queen and her confidantes played a huge role in making high society unions happen, but how old were they all? With a short gap between the two seasons, these were the ages and relationship status of the main characters.

Daphne Bridgerton

Bridgerton Season 2: The Ages & Relationship Status Of The Main Characters

In season 1, Daphne was all of 21 years old, which was when she made her debut in society and was touted to be the diamond of the season. The first season ended with the birth of her child August about nine months after her wedding. With the second season picking up a month or so after August’s birth, Daphne is likely 22 years old in it.

She is still happily married to Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings and her soulmate, but he does not appear on the show since Rege-Jean Page’s sudden exit from the series.

Anthony Bridgerton

Fans couldn’t wait to delve into Anthony’s romance in season 2, and they were given their due with his unexpected tryst with love in the form of Kate Sharma. Anthony was supposed to be considerably older than his sister Daphne, and he revealed his age to be 29 when he crashed Lady Danbury’s soiree to claim his time in the spotlight.

After a forbidden romance with Opera singer Siena Rosso, Anthony found his true love match in Kate Sharma, a young woman from India who was the stepdaughter of aristocrat Lady Mary Sheffield Sharma.

Everyone’s favorite new Bridgerton character traveled all the way from Bombay (present-day Mumbai), India to London, England to find a match for her sister, but ended up getting hitched herself. By her own admission, she was 26 years old, or “six and twenty” as she called it.

She fell in love with the roguish Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, and their courtship lasted for probably three to four months, and they got married before the social season ended, with some time left for Edwina to keep looking for her match. Six months later, the pair were still going strong.

Benedict Bridgerton

Since Benedict was the second-eldest sibling in the gregarious Bridgerton family, the pressures of marriage, producing an heir, and the upkeep of the household finances evaded him. Just a few years younger than Anthony, he was 27 in season 1, and hit 28 in the second season of the show.

Benedict has been single and carefree for two social seasons, pursuing his artistic callings and just enjoying life in general, but he will have to look for a wife soon. He did have a short-lived relationship with Madame Delacroix, but that ended and didn’t carry into the second season. His flirtations with Tessa from the Art Academy are also of the casual kind.

Edwina Sharma

bridgerton season 2 wedding

The youngest of the Sharma siblings who were expected in season 2, Edwina’s age is a bit unclear in the show. Girls as young as 17 and 18 were eligible for marriage in the Regency Era, and Edwina was 17 in the book series by Julia Quinn, but it’s possible that she is older in the TV adaptation.

Kate was 21 in the books but 26 in the show, so people have hazarded guesses that young Edwina could be around 21 years old in Bridgerton, the same age that Daphne was when she debuted. Edwina was set to marry Anthony, but when that fell through the Queen gave her hope of marrying Prince Friedrich. Until the season 2 finale, Edwina was known to be single.

Eloise Bridgerton

Despite Daphne making her entrance into society at 21, Eloise was pushed into the marriage mart much earlier, at the age of 18. She had already delayed her debut by a year, so she was compelled to appear before the Queen in season 2 of Bridgerton.

Usually uninterested in men, this season saw stirrings of romantic feelings between the young feminist and Theo Sharpe, a radical feminist printing apprentice from a lower class. They had broken ties in the fear of being discovered, so Eloise, as of now, is unattached.

Colin Bridgerton

When Colin took off for his world tour in season 1, he was 22, and when he returned home from his travels to Greece and sundry other nations, he was 23 years old. His engagement to Marina was frowned upon, as 22 is considered too young for a man to marry, but the right age for a woman to do so.

Fans would know that the engagement ended in smithereens, and Colin then swore off women after his bad experience. He does have sparks of affection for Penelope, but he hasn’t recognized them yet. The young Bridgerton remains single.

Penelope Featherington

Bridgerton Season 2 - Penelope resumes as Lady Whistledown

Eloise’s best friend Penelope was the same age as her, which was 18. She had, however, made her debut in London society the previous year when she was 17, alongside her elder sisters Phillipa and Prudence.

Penelope was often treated badly at the hands of almost everybody who singled her out based on her appearance and academic inclinations. Her own parents thought that she would have no prospects in marriage at all, which she doesn’t currently, but her affections lie with Colin Bridgerton.

Lady Danbury

It is not certain what Lady Danbury’s exact age is, but she herself admitted to Kate that she had lived a long and full life. It is possible that she was in her late 40s or 50s, based on her age and her social circle which includes Violet Bridgerton, who is about 48 years old herself.

Lady Danbury was once married to the love of her life, but is now a widow. She lives life as she pleases, and took Simon under her wing when he had no parental figures in his life. She now spends her time matchmaking.

Queen Charlotte

According to the year that Bridgerton season 2 was set in, 1814, Queen Charlotte, who was a real monarch in history, was about 70 years old. She was believed to be the first mixed-race Queen, although her marriage did not give impetus to changes in race politics as the show claims.

The septuagenarian was married to King George III, and she had a whopping fifteen children with her king, of which thirteen made it to adulthood.
