Bridesmaids & 9 Other 2010s Comedies That Deserve Sequels

Bridesmaids & 9 Other 2010s Comedies That Deserve Sequels

Over the last ten years, audiences were spoiled with a ton of hilarious movies that had them craving more. Whether it was the chemistry between the lead actors, the absurd toilet humor, or the creative world in which the movies took place, there were pieces that had viewers in stitches from start to finish.

Comedies are some of the hardest movies to make, and whether the filmmakers want to end a series on a high note or they just can’t get funding, some movies are much more likely to get sequels than others. But in a perfect world, all of these movies would have sequels in production right now.

22 Jump Street (2014)

Bridesmaids & 9 Other 2010s Comedies That Deserve Sequels

Not being the first movie in the series, 22 Jump Street is arguably better than the first movie and though it makes sense to end the series on a high note, there are so many places Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum can take the franchise. They even made fun of this in the mid-credits scene, as they went into great detail about literally dozens of sequels and how they could turn out.

Though it seemed like they were saying the series would jump the shark if they made any more, who doesn’t want to see 23 Jump Street: Medical School?

This Is The End (2013)

This Is The End

Filled with a ton of hilarious cameos, This Is The End is the ultimate Seth Rogen comedy, as it features all of the usual suspects and more, including James Franco, Jonah Hill, and Danny McBride, among many others.

All of the actors play exaggerated versions of themselves, which makes the whole thing even better, and even though most of the characters ended up going to hell or heaven, the plot is so ridiculous that there is plenty of room for a sequel to be written.

The Nice Guys (2016)

The Nice Guys

It isn’t often that screenwriters are the topic of conversation, but as Shane Black has been in the industry for decades and has written some of the cleverest buddy cop movies, The Nice Guys is one of his best screenplays.

The Nice Guys is almost a spiritual successor to Black’s Lethal Weapon movies, as the movie features two very different detectives who end up bonding through their work. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling make a great on-screen duo and the final scene even hints at a sequel.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016)

popstar

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is one of the most underrated movies of the decade, as it’s basically a two-hour-long Lonely Island music video with a narrative stretched extremely thin. It’s so silly, completely over the top, and unbelievable, but it’s the best project the trio have ever worked on together.

It features some great cameos and parodies the music industry perfectly. As the music world just gets more ridiculous, a sequel will be more than apt sooner or later.

Bridesmaids (2011)

Original Cast of Bridesmaids (2011)

Bridesmaids took the world by storm in the year of its release, as it’s the funniest movie of 2011 and is definitely the only movie to be nominated for an Academy Award to feature a woman defecating in the street in a wedding dress.

It’s shocking that the world hasn’t actually seen a sequel to the movie yet, as it was such a critical and box office success, but there’s still hope to see the characters reunite.

Knives Out (2019)

The family stands outside fazed in Knives Out.

Being a movie that combines a Cluedo-type mystery narrative with very dry comedy, Knives Out is full of unpredictable moments and has become one of Rian Johnson’s best movies.

Johnson has expressed interest in returning to the character of Benoit Blanc, played hysterically by Daniel Craig as he lays on a thick, syrupy, Southern accent, but whether or not it sees the light of day is a different story entirely.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Crazy Rich Asians Quote - a massive asshole

Crazy Rich Asians isn’t just a run of the mill romantic comedy, it’s a brilliant look at another culture and has an incredible narrative.

And being a cast full of Asians, it shuns a light on some amazing talent that tends to be overlooked in Hollywood. With a supporting cast that includes comedians Ken Joeng and Jimmy O. Yang, the studio simply must revisit this world.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (2019)

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Pitt and DiCaprio

Though it would be completely unprecedented if Quentin Tarantino made a sequel to one of his creations, if there’s any property to do it with it’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

The world that Tarantino created was not only dense and filled with pop culture references, but it’s his funniest movie to date, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt bouncing off each other terrifically. It’d be great to see the two actors take on another hurdle in the movie industry, and even face off with more murderous cult members.

Game Night (2018)

Rachel McAdams as Annie in Game Night

Game Night is one of the most underrated comedies of the 2010s, starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams. The duo hosts a game night that gets horrifically out of hand. The night erupts into bloodshed, fight clubs, and completely brutal murders that give horror flicks a run for their money.

With all the characters amazingly still alive and seemingly unfazed by the whole event, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to see the guys come back for round two.

Ocean’s 8 (2018)

Ocean’s 8 Cast

However viewers see Ocean’s 8, whether as yet another sequel in the Ocean’s series or as a spin-off, one sure thing is that this new group of con artists worked amazingly together and had great chemistry.

The final heist might have been sloppily written compared to the tightly researched Soderbergh trilogy, but Ocean’s 8 was one of the most fun movies, and a second outing with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and co. would be brilliant.
