Bradley Cooper in Talks to Direct ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake

Bradley Cooper in Talks to Direct ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake

A Star Is Born is just one of those stories that keeps being told over and over again. The original 1937 romantic drama has already been remade twice; in 1954 with Judy Garland and then in 1976 with Barbra Streisand headlining.

For the last several years, Hollywood heavyweights have been pursuing yet another big-screen adaptation of the film – the story of a fading star, who helps a young woman with her own career. Most recently, Clint Eastwood was still attached to direct the latest version, but that is no longer the case.

According to THR, none other than Eastwood’s American Sniper star Bradley Cooper is in talks to direct the remake of A Star Is Born. The project would mark the actor’s directorial debut and continues his long-standing relationship with Warner Bros. There’s no word on who might star in the film, since Beyoncé exited the project back when Eastwood was still set to direct.

Cooper has apparently been considering several different projects at the studio, and it’s noteworthy that he is picking up a movie from his recent collaborator (re: Eastwood). However, it’s even more interesting to contemplate exactly what shape the project will take with him at the helm. Recent incarnations have placed the story’s focus on the music industry, though the original film was set in Hollywood. Whichever route Cooper takes the project will ultimately affect the casting process.

With three consecutive Oscar nominations under his belt, Cooper has certainly demonstrated his skill in front of the camera. So it’s not hard to picture him taking on the male lead himself. Many big names – Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Robert Downey Jr. and Will Smith among them – have reportedly been in contention for the part in the past.

If the remake takes A Star Is Born back to its Hollywood roots, then it would sense tfor Cooper – a bonafide A-lister – to share the screen with the movie’s leading lady. On the other hand, perhaps the first-time director will prefer to focus solely on crafting the best feature possible, instead Either way, it seems the long-simmering A Star Is Born remake may finally be on the road to production.
