Brad Pitt’s Life Goals Include Not Having To Make Ocean’s 14

Brad Pitt provided us with a small list of life goals, and one of them is not having to make an Ocean’s 14. After a quiet 2018, and a troubled couple of years personally, 2019 has seen the Hollywood star’s fortunes change for the better. Although his sci-fi tale Ad Astra underperformed at the box office, the film did receive a lot of critical acclaim. Also, Pitt starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and the film not only received critical acclaim but even surpassed $300 million at the worldwide box office. The successes have meant Pitt has fortunately not had to rely on past franchises like Ocean’s to help his career.

The Ocean’s franchise was a series of heist films featuring stars such as Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, and the third installment even included Al Pacino. The trilogy directed by Steven Soderbergh was a big success, grossing over $1 billion collectively. Most recently, the Ocean’s franchise had a spinoff, Ocean’s 8, with an all-female cast led by Sandra Bullock. However, despite the success of the spinoff, Pitt seemed to clarify that he does not intend to make another Ocean’s film anytime soon at the National Board of Review awards.

With the written quote coming from film writer Jack Coyle’s Twitter post, this past Wednesday at the NBR awards, Pitt collected yet another Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. During the speech he stated that his current “goals in life are pretty simple.” The goals included: “Be happy, stay healthy and not get into a financial situation where I have to do Ocean’s 14. We’ll see.”

The mention of Ocean’s 14 and not wanting to do a potential fourth film feels more like Pitt continuing to make light of his recent personal troubles. Even during his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes last Sunday, Pitt joked that he could not bring his mother because anytime he is seen with a woman, people automatically assume he is dating that person. However, this time the poor Ocean’s franchise seemed to make it into the actor’s jokes as well.

Ocean’s Thirteen hit theaters in 2007, and there haven’t been many suggestions that a fourth installment will happen anytime soon. So, this should likely be taken for what it is, a tongue in cheek comment from Pitt. Fortunately, the star has had a very good 2019, and the awards season seems to be justifying that statement. It’s not entirely clear what Pitt’s next film will be, as his reunion with David Fincher for World War Z 2 was shut down by Paramount. But if his words during his acceptance speech were true, Ocean’s 14 will not be the star’s next film.
