BOTW’s Zelda Looks Incredible In Gerudo-style Cosplay

BOTW’s Zelda Looks Incredible In Gerudo-style Cosplay

A cosplayer has created an incredible version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild’s Princess Zelda in Gerudo-style clothing. The desert-dwelling tribe have been both antagonists and allies at various points in the Zelda franchise.

Reddit user Lynxicosplay recently posted an image of their Gerudo-style Princess Zelda cosplay to the Zelda subreddit. The cosplay shows Zelda in an outfit that appears to be inspired by that of Gerudo Chief Urbosa’s, all in the shade of blue associated with Zelda and the Champions. Perhaps the most incredible part of the image, taken by photographer vdschans_portraits, is that Lynxicosplay is pictured posing alongside a rearing horse. This horse is Twan, supplied by cosplay_dressage_horses and whose presence elevates the cosplay into something special (although players can’t actually see horses in BOTW’s Gerudo desert without glitches).

Zelda Cosplay Blends Royal Color With Gerudo Style

The ‘Champion Blue’ color is associated strongly with both the representatives of the various races who opposed Calamity Ganon, and with Princess Zelda herself. In Breath of the Wild‘s memory flashbacks, she can be seen wearing various outfits in the same color. As such, Lynxicosplay’s decision to use the same color ties the cosplay directly to BOTW’s Zelda in a franchise that features many versions of the princess. Furthermore, the blue triangle on Zelda’s belt, in place of the Gerudo emblem seen on Urbosa’s own garb, is of course reminiscent of the Triforce symbol seen on Zelda’s formal royal dress. The result is a beautiful cosplay of BOTW’s Princess Zelda.

The canonical dress of the Gerudo in Breath of the Wild has attracted a measure of controversy regarding their choice in footwear. BOTW’s Gerudo wear high heels, a notably incongruous choice for people who live in a desert. Heels are, of course, highly impractical for traveling across sand. For members of a warrior tribe who can expect regular combat in the desert, the choice seems especially strange. As such, it seems that the design choice was made mostly on the grounds of visual appeal instead, something which has drawn some criticism from some fans. Regardless of this, cosplayers have been happy to portray the Gerudo; last year saw an incredible cosplay of BOTW’s Chief Urbosa herself, for example.

This cosplay shows off both its creator’s skill and creativity. Lynxicosplay has created an original look for Zelda that nevertheless matches the style of the Princess’s canonical outfits in Breath of the Wild through the use of blue. The resulting Gerudo-style cosplay looks amazing, a perfect blend of Urbosa’s outfit and that of the Hylian Princess. It is easy to imagine Zelda wearing such an outfit in Gerudo town. The cosplayer’s choice to pose with a horse is also praiseworthy, as it has created an action-packed shot which is sure to impress any Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fan.
