Bosch: Legacy Season 2 Cliffhanger Ending Explained By Star

The article contains spoilers for Bosch: Legacy season 2.

Bosch: Legacy star Titus Welliver discusses that cliffhanger season 2 ending. The second installment picks up right where the first left off, with a masked assailant abducting Madeline “Maddie” Bosch (Madison Lintz). Bosch: Legacy season 2 works in a similar fashion and goes full circle, as Maddie learns that her own father, Harry Bosch (Welliver), may well have ordered a prison hit against her convicted kidnapper.

In an interview with Collider, Welliver shed light on the dynamic between Harry and Maddie. The actor, who is also an executive producer on the show, talked about how their relationship might shift in the already-renewed Bosch: Legacy season 3 and discussed how there’s an ongoing effort by Harry to shield Maddie from the darkness of his work. Welliver cautions, nonetheless, that “she is her father’s daughter and her mother’s daughter.” Read his full comment below:

Yeah, I think that he does recognize that in his daughter. I think what he is trying to do as a parent and a former cop is to try to teach her to be careful, to not let the darkness of that work that’s done penetrate her character or her moral compass. She is her father’s daughter and her mother’s daughter. I think that is the beauty of the writing—she’s struggling with that, and he’s struggling in observing that.

The Bosch Universe Is Set To Expand

While it sounds like there will be some family fallout in the upcoming episodes of Bosch: Legacy, there’s also a new series on the horizon. The currently untitled spinoff will center on Detective Renée Ballard, who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division, though that’s far from an easy task. Per the show’s description, the division that Ballard runs is a poorly funded, all-volunteer service, and it has a significant backload. Perhaps most notably, Ballard is a character created by Michael Connelly.

Connelly is known for The Lincoln Lawyer, which has a loose connection to Bosch. Renewed for season 3, The Lincoln Lawyer is a success for Netflix, and the Ballard spin-off could be a project that would allow for more direct crossover between the shows. Unfortunately, because they are on competing streaming services, the connection between Bosch and The Lincoln Lawyer is tenuous, and they don’t share characters.

But in the immediate future of Bosch: Legacy, the family strife between Harry and Maddie is poised to remain front and center as the series examines how the titular character’s devotion to his family might actually lead to the opposite of what he intends. It grounds the action, thrills, and high stakes into a story that’s immediately relatable.
