Boba Fett Star Gives A Disappointing Update On Season 2

The Book of Boba Fett season 2 has received a disappointing update. The Disney+ show, which takes place in the Star Wars universe, has so far run for a single seven-episode season detailing the bounty hunter Boba Fett’s (Temuera Morrison) attempt to take over Jabba the Hutt’s territory on Tatooine and change the overall tenor of how the locals are treated. The show co-starred Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand alongside an ensemble cast that included Matt Berry, David Pasquesi, and Jennifer Beals.

Newshub recently performed an interview with Temeura Morrison, during which they discussed the possibility of The Book of Boba Fett season 2. The actor stated frankly that “I don’t know what’s going on there.” While he said that he’s met fans who want a season 2, he thinks “it all goes back to budgets and what they want to do.” Read his full quote and check out the full interview below:

I don’t know what’s going on there. We’re coming out of this downtime period so I think everyone is just settling back in and it all goes back to budgets and what they want to do and how much the thing costs. I really don’t know. Judging by the fans I’ve met, they all want a season two, but I don’t know what’s going to happen.

The Book Of Boba Fett Was A Disappointment – Season 2 Could Redeem It

One possible impediment to the show’s continuation beyond the Book of Boba Fett season 1 ending is the fact that it had a very mixed reception. Despite earning a just-barely Fresh score of 62% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences gave it a Rotten 53%, the second-lowest audience score for a live-action entry in the franchise beyond the divisive and infamously review-bombed Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi. The show’s Metacritic rating of 59 out of 100 also puts it in the franchise’s Bottom 5.

However, many of the issues that plagued the show in season 1 could potentially be shaken off in a new season. Chief among these complaints was the fact that the main Book of Boba Fett cast was sidelined for two major episodes following the arrival of The Mandalorian‘s lead character Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), whose off-planet adventures included a full episode that didn’t feature Fett himself at all. However, now that Djarin’s adventures in The Mandalorian season 3 have taken him elsewhere, the table could be set for a more structurally consistent Boba Fett season 2.

The Book of Boba Fett could have more focus on the ongoing story of Fett and Shand’s adventures on Tatooine, also eschewing the frequent flashbacks to Fett’s time after escaping the Sarlaac from Return of the Jedi. Indeed, the final episode of the season teased the imminent return of Timothy Olyphant’s character Cobb Vanth, who could become a powerful ally for Fett and keep the show’s plot tethered to a more consistent storyline. However, it seems that none of this could happen without a season 2 renewal, so it remains to be seen if the show will ever be resuscitated.

After pulling himself out of the Sarlaac pit, Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) is kidnapped by the Tusken Raiders. But after gaining their trust, Boba is able to return to Tatooine and claim Jabba the Hutt’s throne with the help of Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). The Book of Boba Fet also directly led into The Mandalorian season 3, which premiered in March 2023.
