Bob Odenkirk Confident Nobody 2 Will Happen

Producer and star Bob Odenkirk reveals he is confident Nobody 2 will happen and offers insight into the development for the action sequel. Odenkirk starred in the original film as Hutch Mansell, a seemingly mild-mannered family man who’s hiding a dark past from his family as he tries to live a normal life. However, when his house is broken into, Hutch revisits his dangerous former life and draws the attention of a local crime lord hellbent on stopping him before his empire is crumbled.

Alongside Odenkirk, the cast for Nobody included Connie Nielsen, RZA, Christopher Lloyd, Aleksei Serebryakov, Michael Ironside, Colin Salmon, Gage Munroe and Paisley Cadorath. Directed by Hardcore Henry‘s Ilya Naishuller on a script from John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, the film hit theaters in March 2021 to largely positive reviews from critics for its action sequences, dark humor and Odenkirk’s central performance. Nobody also proved to be a solid box office success, bringing in over $56 million against its $16 million budget in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and it may not be the end for the property.

While recently speaking with Empire magazine (via SlashFilm), Bob Odenkirk opened up about the possibility of Nobody 2. The actor/producer confirmed that development is underway on the action sequel and expressed his confidence it will get off the ground, though noted that Universal has yet to officially greenlight the project. See what Odenkirk said below:

“We are working on making that happen. Universal has been very upbeat and welcoming. Derek and I have talked story. It’s not a sure thing yet, but we’re working on it. I think the signs point to yes.”

Bob Odenkirk Confident Nobody 2 Will Happen

Odenkirk’s confidence that Nobody 2 will get made comes after multiple teases from writer Derek Kolstad that development on the sequel was underway. Around the time of the first Nobody‘s release, Kolstad had discussed ideas for a potential John Wick franchise crossover, revealing he had ideas for subtle ways to connect both of his and producer David Leitch’s action series, though noting it would need to be a subtle Easter egg manner due to both being owned by different studios. Naishuller also confirmed this past June that Kolstad was in the process of writing the sequel, despite it not having been officially greenlit by Universal, making Odenkirk’s recent update a positive reassurance for those eager to see more of the character.

Given the fairly modest budget of the first film and multiple studios’ desire to build franchises in a similar vein to that of John Wick, it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise for Universal to give the greenlight for Nobody 2 once Kolstad’s script is properly finished. Despite his recent health scare on the set of Better Call Saul, Odenkirk’s confidence and eagerness to bring Hutch back to the screen should also instill some confidence in the studio itself to move forward with a sequel now that the actor/producer’s time on the Breaking Bad spin-off series is coming to a close. While audiences await word on the potential sequel, the first Nobody is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
