Bob Odenkirk Almost Debunks Biggest Better Call Saul Kim Death Theory

Warning! Spoilers for Better Call Saul season 6.

Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk nearly debunks the fan theory that Kim (Rhea Seehorn) will be killed off in the show’s final episodes. The show has three episodes left in its sixth and final season, with the series finale set to air on August 15 on AMC. This week’s episode is entitled “Breaking Bad” to bridge the gap between the series and its predecessor of the same name.

Better Call Saul follows Jimmy McGill aka Saul Goodman as he manages to con his way through the Albuquerque crime underworld. Better Call Saul season 6 episode 9, entitled “Fun and Games”,  saw Jimmy’s wife Kim end their relationship after Kim realizes how their relationship puts others in danger following the death of Howard (Patrick Fabian.) An unspecified amount of time later, Jimmy fully embraces his Saul Goodman persona further connecting the narratives of Better Call Saul to Breaking Bad.

In a video for Vanity Fair, Odenkirk and Seehorn respond to fan questions and theories, with one fan claiming that Kim will return in the final episodes and meet an untimely end. Odenkirk suggests that’s not the case because the show has already killed off so many lead characters in the last season. He insists it would be too predictable that a character as central as Kim would meet the same fate. However, he also mentions that the stakes of the series are the highest they’ve been, and Kim’s death isn’t out of the question. Read his quote below:

I understand the idea that Kim would die. In a show where there’s life or death stakes, I get it. You should be concerned about that. On the other hand, because some major characters just were slaughtered, it feels like everyone can’t die all at once. Unless it’s a, you know, apocalyptic scenario.

The biggest question at the heart of Better Call Saul is the fate of Kim, whose development alongside Jimmy has been the central drama of the show. But, as most fans know, Kim is not seen or mentioned ever on Breaking Bad, leading fans to speculate where she went. With Kim having surrendered her law license and left Jimmy, her most recent appearance felt a tad anticlimactic if that was her end, with many hoping she’ll return in the final hours for some larger payoff.

Better Call Saul season 6 has managed to stay consistent with the overall show and though it hasn’t stuck the landing quite yet with three episodes to go, hopes remain high that the series will see an ending true to itself. Kim’s role in Better Call Saul was so important that it doesn’t make sense for her to just disappear, even if a lot of time has passed. The show must bring her back for a satisfying ending to her arc, especially considering the fact that there are no answers as to her fate in Breaking Bad. In the end, it wouldn’t feel right to kill Kim on Better Call Saul, but only time will tell what her final fate will entail.
