Bloodshot 2? What To Expect From A Sequel

Now that Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot is out in theaters, here’s what you can expect from Bloodshot 2, such as the film’s release date and story. Based on the Valiant Comics character, Bloodshot features Diesel in the lead role as Ray Garrison, a former soldier who is given superhuman strength and healing abilities from the nanites flowing through his veins. The movie is written by Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer, with Dave Wilson making his feature directorial debut.

The Sony production follows the story of Ray as he learns the truth behind his new powers and RST, the organization that gave them to him. As of this moment, Sony has yet to announce that a sequel to Bloodshot is on the way. After previously unloading other Valiant Comic properties to Paramount, their commitment to turning this into a franchise in questionable. So far, the reviews for Bloodshot have been mostly negative, so the future of Vin Diesel’s latest attempt to lead a franchise will be decided based on the box office. With theaters around the world shutting down due to coronavirus and middling opening weekend projections, it might be an uphill climb for Bloodshot 2 – although the reported $45 million budget gives it a better shot at becoming profitable.

When Will Bloodshot 2 Be Released?

If the box office performance of Bloodshot is high enough to warrant a sequel, the question that will come after figuring out the creative team of the film is when it will hit theaters. The original film was in development for a few years, but it moved forward rather quickly once Diesel signed on as the lead. Production on Bloodshot began in the summer of 2018 so it could arrive in theaters in early 2020. If it were to take a year or so to write the script and do pre-production on Bloodshot 2 and another year to get it ready for a release, it is possible the sequel could arrive as soon as 2022, but 2023 is probably a safer bet.
