Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is returning after a week off for recap (what turned out to be episode #21.5), and with it comes a return to the massive fight developing between the surviving Sternritter and Soul Reapers. Here’s everything a fan needs to know to watch the episode as it airs.
When Do Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episodes Release?
New episodes of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War are currently debuting on Hulu in the US and on Disney Plus in most other countries. These new episodes are released at 7:30 AM Pacific Time and 10:30 AM Eastern Time, with the subtitled release of episode #22 set for Saturday, September 9, 2023. Dubbed episodes are also released on Saturdays, however the dub releases are at present about 3 weeks behind the subtitled version, meaning September 9, 2023, will see the release of dubbed episode #19. Of course, all episodes will be streaming indefinitely after their release, so there’s no need to rush to watch it the moment it drops.
What Happened in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode #21?
Episode #21 of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War saw Ichigo finally arrive at the battlefield, equipped with his brand new Zanpakuto and some powerful new clothes. Ichigo went up against the female Sternritter, who proved to be no match for him. Ichigo also used a new move, the Getsuga Jujisho, which already showed a tremendous level of power. As other Sternritter such as Bazz B piled on, Renji, Rukia, and Byakuya came to help Ichigo out so that he could set off to battle Yhwach, only to be stunned by the sight of Uryu at the enemy’s side. Uryu and Yhwach ascended to the heavens through the hole Ichigo opened up in his descent, leaving him speechless as Chad and Orihime arrived.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode #22 Calls in the Zombies
Episode #22 is entitled “Marching Out the Zombies” and will seemingly feature Ikkaku and Yumichika going up against Giselle Gewelle, the Sternritter with the “Z” Schrift, Zombie. Giselle may not be the only one packing zombie combatants, however, as Mayuri is up to his old mad science tricks once again. Meanwhile, Ichigo will be dealing with the revelation of Uryu’s betrayal, as well as Yhwach’s ascension to the Soul King’s Palace. Will Squad Zero be able to stop Yhwach from breaking in? Which fight will Ichigo have to prioritize? The stakes have never been higher for Ichigo, and one wrong move could spell the end of the Soul Society.
With only a handful of episodes left in this cour, events are starting to accelerate towards the end, which is sure to conclude on a dramatic note. It’s not clear exactly how far into the manga this cour will go, still, but there are definitely some spots that would make for excellent cliffhangers coming up. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War still has plenty of awesome content on the way, though, so there are several weeks left to enjoy.
