Blade Runner 2099 Gets Major Filming Update As Prime Video Sequel Finds Director Replacement

Blade Runner 2099 gets a promising new update that includes a filming start date and a new director attachment. Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner in 1982 is widely considered one of the best science-fiction movies ever made, and audiences got to return to the filmmaker’s bleak dystopian future in Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 in 2017. The next exploration of the franchise will come in the form of a Prime Video’s sequel series, which takes place 50 years after Villeneuve’s movie.

Now, Deadline reports that Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 is set to start filming in April in Prague, a change from the previous filming destination of Belfast, Ireland. Jonathan van Tulleken has been tapped to direct and produce the first two episodes after the departure of Jeremy Podeswa, who left the show due to scheduling conflicts stemming from the WGA strike last year.
