Black Widow Movie Clip Explains Her Russian Family

A newly released clip from Marvel’s Black Widow gives fans a better understanding of Natasha Romanoff’s Russian family. The film, debuting in theaters and on Disney+ July 9th, is set to give the now-deceased hero greater depth, diving into her origin story and taking place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. As the premiere date finally approaches, after several delays and pushbacks, the studio is releasing more and more Black Widow marketing material to build excitement for the movie.

Black Widow is set to focus on Romanoff addressing the issues in her past she has been avoiding since becoming an Avenger. It also introduces a new threat, a villain named Taskmaster who specializes in analyzing and mimicking the fighting styles of his opponents, using their own skills against them. In addition to Taskmaster, the film also introduces two new black widow agents Yelena Belova and Melina Vostokoff, portrayed by Florence Pugh and Rachel Weisz. David Harbour joins the widows as Alexei Shostakov, better known as Red Guardian.

Weisz debuted a new clip for the upcoming MCU film while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. In the clip, fans are given context over why Romanoff, the other widows, and Red Guardian were brought together. It also highlights the family-like relationship the characters share with one another. The clip can be seen below:

From the clip, it is clear Vostokoff and Shostakov have a strong romantic chemistry that this reunion has invigorated. It’s also explained that the group was forced into posing as a family for a three-year period, although they claim they no longer see themselves that way. Vostokoff’s character has been revealed to not only be a trained black widow spy but a scientist as well. Weisz talks about how her character runs a pig farm where she conducts experiments on the animals. That farm is where Romanoff finds Vostokoff when attempting to reunite their shared mock family.

Being Marvel’s first film released since Spider-Man: Far From Home, expectations for the movie are high for fans ready to return to theaters for the cinematic universe they’ve been mostly deprived of during the lockdowns. Johansson hopes the film is able to bring closure for the character in the eyes of fans as the studio prepares to move in a different direction for Phase 4. It is unclear if Harbour and Weisz will have a large role in the universe after Black Widow. However, with the chemistry they show off in the clip, it would not be surprising if the studio brought them in for additional projects. There is a clear connection with the characters, even if they no longer choose to see themselves as family.
