Black Mirror Season 6 Trailer: Is Aaron Paul’s Episode A Season 4 Sequel?

A Black Mirror season 6 trailer announces its return on Netflix and teases a brand-new set of eerie episodes. The dystopian show last premiered four years ago when it dropped three standalone episodes, such as “Striking Vipers” and “Smithereens.” Anticipation for season 6 started thereafter, but possibilities for new episodes seemed dubious due to issues regarding IP rights and creator Charlie Brooker expressing hesitance, citing the show’s declining public interest. However, season 6 was unexpectedly renewed in May 2022, with the expectation of more than three episodes.

Now, after a three-year hiatus, Netflix has finally released the first Black Mirror season 6 trailer. Check it out below:

The official season 6 teaser reveals what audiences can expect from the brand-new batch of episodes from its star-studded cast, dark and dystopic themes, and heightened violence.

Everything Revealed By The Black Mirror Season 6 Trailer

Black Mirror Season 6 Trailer: Is Aaron Paul’s Episode A Season 4 Sequel?

First and foremost, what’s most notable about the teaser trailer is seeing the first look at the Black Mirror season 6 cast in action. The lengthy list of highly skilled actors includes Aaron Paul, Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy, Ben Barnes, Danny Ramirez, Himesh Patel, John Hannah, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Michael Cera, Monica Dolan, Myha’la Herrold, Paapa Essiedu, Rob Delaney, Rory Culkin, Salma Hayek, and Zazie Beetz. On the creative side, Brooker is once again credited with writing season 6.

While Black Mirror has always adhered to an anthological format, Brooker says he broke some of the show’s rules with season 6, and the trailer revealed one way in which he did. There are some shots of Paul aboard a spaceship that looks reminiscent of the USS Callister from season 4, episode 1, in which the Breaking Bad star initially cameoed as the voice of the annoyed “Gamer691.” In all likelihood, Paul reprises that role in a sequel to the beloved episode, the first time Black Mirror has done a direct follow-up.

In terms of the other episodes, Black Mirror appears to be heightening its level of violence. At one point, Anjana Vasan’s character forcefully smashes a woman’s head into a glass display case. Across the trailer, the episodes also appear more cinematic with a noticeably higher production value, while still maintaining the show’s signature unsettling tone. The Black Mirror season 6 trailer reveals it is coming to Netflix sometime this June and as the official tagline states, it “is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet.”
