Black Mirror Season 4 Premiere Date Finally Revealed By New Trailer

After a week of individual episode trailers, the final trailer for Black Mirror season 4 has arrived, complete with premiere date. While not a pop culture hit on the level of a House of Cards or Stranger Things, one of Netflix’s most acclaimed gems is Black Mirror. Created by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror tells sci-fi stories with a dark and satirical edge, usually focusing on the unanticipated consequences of modern society’s obsession with the latest and greatest technological advances. The series began on the UK’s Channel 4, before getting picked up by Netflix for seasons 3 and 4, after the original batch of episodes proved to be a big hit among the service’s streaming subscribers.

While most series tend to drop in quality as they go on, Black Mirror has seen each subsequent season so far earn even more critical praise than the last. Standouts of last year’s season 3 include ‘San Junipero’ – an Emmy-winning tale of a love affair that transcends death itself – ‘Nosedive’ – a look at a possible future where one’s status is controlled by their social media ranking – and ‘Shut Up and Dance’ – which examined the perils of trying to get away with bad behavior in an era where cameras and recording devices are everywhere. Honestly though, many fans would argue that there are no outright bad episodes of Black Mirror, just varying degrees of good.

With that track record of excellence, there is understandably a lot of excitement going in to the debut of Black Mirror season 4. Fans have long-wondered when the season would finally drop on Netflix, and when it wasn’t included in the service’s most recent monthly list of new arrivals, many assumed that meant new episodes wouldn’t arrive until 2018. However, that’s not the case, as today’s final trailer for Black Mirror season 4 confirms a December 29 release date, just barely squeaking into 2017. This follows a series of trailers for each of the six upcoming episodes. Check it out above.

The six new Black Mirror installments that comprise season 4 include ‘Crocodile’ – set in a world where people’s memories can be electronically reproduced on video via tech – ‘Arkangel’ – a look at the extreme measures a worried parent will take to protect their child – ‘Hang the DJ’ – an exploration of how dating works in a society where one’s life is predetermined – ‘U.S.S. Callister’  – a Star Trek homage – ‘Metalhead’ – a suspense piece, and Black Mirror’s first black and white episode – and ‘Black Museum’ – a 90-minute anthology within the anthology.

Will Black Mirror season 4 continue the tradition of greatness established by the show’s prior seasons? That remains to be seen, but the chances of success look good.
