After 10 years, Black Butler is finally returning with a brand-new anime season continuing the adventures of Ciel Phantomhive and his iconic demon butler, Sebastian Michaelis. While A-1 Pictures won’t be returning to adapt the Public School arc, with the production being handled by CloverWorks, recent trailers and promotional art for the season looks more than promising for longtime fans of the franchise.

With episode #1’s official release is right around the corner, there’s no better time for those looking forward to the new season to get ready to see Ciel and Sebastian’s return as soon as Black Butler -Public School Arc- begins streaming.

Black Butler -Public School Arc- episode #1 will begin airing on Saturday, April 13 in Japan at 23:30 (JST) on Tokyo MX in Japan. For fans of Black Butler in the west, Crunchyroll will be streaming the series as part of their Spring 2024 seasonal anime lineup at 9 AM (PDT), 11 AM (CDT), and 12 PM (EDT). There is currently no information at this time regarding the release of an English dub for the series.

What Is Black Butler -Public School Arc- About?

Ciel and Seabstian take on one of their most interesting cases yet – in a boarding school

This new season of Black Butler deviates a bit from the type of mysteries fans have seen Ciel and Sebastian take on in the past. While the pair have experience investigating corrupt circuses and a cruise ship being used as a front to raise the dead, Black Butler -Public School Arc- begins with Ciel receiving a letter from Queen Victoria telling him that multiple students from Weston College, one of the top public schools in England, have begun to disappear without a word, including one of her family members. After infiltrating, Ciel disguises himself as a normal student while Sebastian joins the staff as the new housemaster for the Sapphire Owls. Ciel and Sebastian are soon introduced to the “P4”, the house captains for each of the four houses in the college, a group of elite students chosen for their exemplary grades and attitudes.

In addition to being produced by CloverWorks, Black Butler -Public School Arc- has a promising list of staff members working on the project. The new season will be directed by Kenjiro Okado, best known for his work on March Comes In Like a Lion and various entries in the Monogatari series; series composition by Hiroyuki Yoshino, known for his previous work on previous Black Butler anime adaptations and Code Geass; an original soundtrack written by Ryo Kawasaki, who also created the original soundtracks for To Your Eternity and Fate/Grand Order -Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia-; and art direction by Kuniaki Nemoto, who has earned a name for themselves due to their previous work on Attack on Titan The Final Chapter Part 2 and Baki.
