The DC Extended Universe has found its Hawkman, as The Invisible Man star Aldis Hodge has been cast as the DC hero in Black Adam. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has spent the better part of a decade trying to join the DCEU as the anti-hero Black Adam. Instead of appearing in Shazam! as the main villain, plans changed so Johnson could star in a Black Adam solo film. Even though the film was announced in 2017, it has only started to make real progress as of late.
There have been plenty of updates on Black Adam recently, as DC begins filling out the movie around Johnson. He previously confirmed that the Justice Society of America would appear in Black Adam, but we’re now starting to find out who plays the heroes on the team. Following rumors of his casting, Noah Centineo was officially confirmed to be Atom Smasher in the movie at DC FanDome. The event also saw the confirmation that Hawkman, Doctor Fate, and Cyclone will fill out the JSA roster. Fans were somewhat disappointed that additional casting wasn’t announced, but now that has changed.
Aldis Hodge is in talks to join the cast as Hawkman in Black Adam according to a new report by THR. Hodge recently appeared in The Invisible Man at the start of the year, while he also has a role as Hall of Fame NFL running back Jim Brown in Regina King’s directorial debut One Night in Miami, which is receiving rave reviews after its festival premiere. Now, Hodge is set to join the DCEU as Hawkman.
Carter Hall aka Hawkman has been part of DC comics for decades. He was originally born as Prince Khufu Kha-Tarr, but he is practically immortal. After he was murdered by a knife made of Nth metal, Hawkman was reincarnated with no memory of what happened. Although he eventually regains his memories, he and the love of his life, Hawkgirl, are cursed to repeat this cycle. However, Black Adam will forgo including Hawkgirl, as Johnson has confirmed she was cut from the most recent drafts of the script.
This set up should give Hodge plenty of material to work with to make Hawkman a standout character in Black Adam. Hodge is a talented actor who could now get the chance to break out thanks to a high-profile role like a DC superhero. Now that Hawkman has been found, Black Adam needs to find actors to play Doctor Fate and Cyclone to complete the film’s initial JSA roster. Between Johnson, Centineo, and Hodge, Black Adam‘s cast is an impressive one early on, so it should be fun to see who else Johnson convinces to join him in the DCEU.
