Bill & Ted 3 Trailer Reveals Movie Is Going To VOD

The full-length trailer for Bill & Ted Face the Music offers an extended look at the highly-anticipated movie, as well as a new release date. The upcoming film will reunite Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, who first played Bill and Ted in 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. They also appeared in a sequel two years later, making it nearly 30 years between the second and third movies in the franchise. Understandably, audiences both old and new are excited about Bill & Ted Face the Music, which will find the two heroes attempting to save the world with the perfect song. The teaser trailer for the movie, released last month, made it look like another fun adventure for Bill & Ted, keeping with the tone of the first two movies.

Unfortunately, fans have faced uncertainty regarding the release of Bill & Ted Face the Music, as it’s been moved around quite a bit due to the coronavirus pandemic. Most recently, it was set for an August 28 release, though many felt that could change depending on if theaters are actually able to open next month. The recent delay of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, with no release date announced at this time, make it likely other films could follow suit. Now, Bill & Ted Face the Music has indeed been moved again, though there is a silver lining for fans.

Today, Orion Pictures released the first full-length trailer for the movie, as well as a new poster. The trailer shows more of Bill and Ted’s journey to saving the world, with the caption revealing the movie’s new release date of September 1. However, like several other movies of the pandemic, it will release On Demand the same day. Check out the new trailer and poster for Bill & Ted Face the Music below:

The new trailer is exciting on its own and makes it clear the film will maintain the goofy spirit of the first two movies. However, the release date and VOD announcement for Bill & Ted Face the Music are arguably more interesting. It’s pleasantly surprising the film was only delayed a few days, though fans may have mixed feelings about it releasing both in theaters and On Demand. In a normal time, this strategy would just provide another way for audiences to see the movie. However, at this point, it seems unlikely many fans will feel safe heading to theaters September 1, even if the majority of them are open at that time.

This could then mean fans hoping to see Bill and Ted’s newest adventure on the big screen may be out of luck. Though, having to check the movie out at home is likely better than a long delay, especially with the uncertainty surrounding theaters at this time. It’s also worth noting that studios have had some big hits with VOD during the ongoing pandemic. With its existing fan base, Bill & Ted Face the Music could easily follow suit. However, audiences will have to wait until September to find out for sure.
