Bill & Ted 3 Free Movie Screenings Being Held At Alamo Drafthouse

Independent theater chain Alamo Drafthouse announced it would host free, early screenings of Bill & Ted Face The Music when it reopens its screens next week. Alamo Drafthouse is one of the largest independent theater chains in the USA, with more than 44 locations, most of which are located in Texas. While it will only reopen the majority of its locations next week, Alamo has already said that it will require patrons to wear masks, and those who don’t have one will be given one, or refused entry.

Theaters around the USA are reopening over the next week, which coincides with several new theatrical releases. Those include Unhinged (August 21), Bill & Ted Face the MusicThe New Mutants (both August 28), and Christoper Nolan’s Tenet (September 3). Bill & Ted Face the Music will also release on VOD the same day it drops in theaters.

According to Deadline, Alamo Drafthouse has announced that as part of its reopening plans, it will screen exclusive early shows of Bill & Ted Face the Music for free. The screenings will take place on August 26, two full days before the official release date of the movie, and fans will be able to purchase free tickets on the Alamo Drafthouse website. The tickets come with a caveat, though, that audiences will have to buy food and beverage for the screening. Alamo’s CEO, Shelli Taylor, spoke about her excitement to reopen.

We are incredibly excited to welcome everyone back to Alamo Drafthouse. Tenet, The New Mutants and Bill & Ted Face the Music are made for the big-screen experience. We’ve all dearly missed going to the movies, and with our many enhanced safety protocols we feel that we can come together again confidently and securely.

The chain will also be showing several classic movies under two themes – Masks and Lost Time. The issues tie into the collective experiences of people around the world during the coronavirus – the wearing of masks to reduce the spread of the virus, and the idea that the pandemic has lead to lost time. The former theme will be showing classic masked hero movies, 1989’s Batman, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Mask of Zorro while films shown under the Lost Time theme include Inception, Back to the FutureBack to the Future Part II, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,  and The Edge of Tomorrow.

It’s exciting news for movie fans who are willing to take the risk of venturing indoors to watch new releases, with the sweetener of free tickets for Bill & Ted Face The Music a smart move by Alamo Drafthouse to encourage those who are a little hesitant to check out their new safety procedures. There is still uncertainty, however, over just how safe watching movies in a theater is, and the Alamo Drafthouse may be one of many theater chains that don’t get the influx of audiences it was hoping for. Only time will tell, of course, and with the much-anticipated Tenet releasing in just over two weeks, theaters will finally get their answer about how willing audiences are to watch movies on the big screen.
