Bill Skarsgård’s John Wick Copycat Shatters 1 Unthinkable Keanu Reeves Record

Bill Skarsgård’s John Wick Copycat Shatters 1 Unthinkable Keanu Reeves Record

Bill Skarsgård’s action movie Boy Kills World has been compared to John Wick in terms of style and its big doses of action and violence, but Skarsgård’s movie completely shattered an unthinkable Keanu Reeves record. 2024 is a big year for Bill Skarsgård, who is starring in three different movies: Boy Kills World and the remakes of The Crow and Nosferatu. Boy Kills World is an action comedy-thriller directed by Moritz Mohr in his feature directional debut, and it took the audience by surprise.

Boy Kills World introduces viewers to Boy (Skarsgård). When he was a child, his mother and his sister, Mina, were chosen as part of The Culling, an event organized by Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen) to kill 12 people on live television. Boy was left to die and was left deaf and mute as a result, but he was rescued by a shaman who nursed him back to life and trained him. Due to its revenge theme and its overall tone and style, Boy Kills World is being compared to John Wick, and it actually shattered an unthinkable Keanu Reeves record, and it did it effortlessly.

Boy Kills World Ending Explained

The ending of Boy Kills World recontextualizes the entire film, builds to an unexpected final fight, and even sets up a direction for sequels.

Bill Skarsgård Has No Lines Of Dialogue In Boy Kills World

Boy Has A Lot Less Dialogue Than John Wick

As mentioned above, Boy is left deaf and mute at the beginning of Boy Kills World, so he doesn’t really have any lines of dialogue in the whole movie. However, Boy Kills World found a way for the audience to know what Boy is going through by giving him an inner voice that they can hear. As he had forgotten what his own voice sounded like, Boy took the voice of a videogame he used to play with his sister as his inner voice. Through it, viewers know what Boy is thinking, even if he can’t physically say anything.

After being left deaf and mute, Boy can be seen mouthing a couple of words and even signs at one point, but he never actually speaks. Of course, this has also drawn comparisons to John Wick, who isn’t exactly the most talkative character in the action genre. Reeves’ John Wick says a total of 484 words in the first movie, 499 words in John Wick: Chapter 2, 410 words in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and 384 words in John Wick: Chapter 4. Both worlds are more focused on action than dialogue, but Boy Kills World took it to another level.

Boy Only Says One Word In Boy Kills World

Boy Didn’t Need To Talk Much To Communicate With The Audience

Boy Kills World focuses on Boy’s revenge mission against Hilda Van Der Koy and her family, so it spends most of its time with deaf and mute Boy, though it does explore his backstory at two points. In all of Boy Kills World, Boy only says one word, but that’s obviously not enough to undo his impressive record against John Wick. Boy not being able to speak and, instead, communicating through a videogame voice adds to Boy Kills World’s video game vibe, while also adding an extra layer of tragedy to his story.

While John Wick lets out more groans and screams than words and communicates more with his facial expressions and punches, Boy has the bonus of the videogame voice, but Bill Skarsgård is also pretty expressive, making it easier for the audience to follow his thoughts and feelings.
