Biggest Questions About Jurassic World After Camp Cretaceous

Netflix’s animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous ends on a major cliffhanger, with several big unanswered questions for season 2 and the wider Jurassic World franchise. The show takes place during the events of Colin Trevarrow’s 2015 film Jurassic World, but follows six campers having the opportunity to experience Camp Cretaceous and get a behind the scenes look at the park. After the Indominus Rex breaks loose, the kids try to stay alive and escape Isla Nublar – but unfortunately miss the evacuation ferry on their way out. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous ends with the kids abandoned on an evacuated Isla Nublar, trying to figure out what to do next.

The ending of season 1 of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous was surprisingly dark for a children’s show, and leaves a lot up in the air regarding the future of the show and the fates of its characters. With the five remaining campers now stranded on Isla Nublar, they have to try and find another way to survive and escape the island. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom sets up the destruction of Isla Nublar, and with that sets a countdown for the Camp Cretaceous kids to escape before Mt. Sibo erupts. Although Netflix hasn’t renewed Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous for season 2 yet, the series leaves the fate of the campers a mystery.

Because Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is set during the events of Jurassic World, the audience is fully aware of Isla Nublar’s future and the obstacles the campers might have to face from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. After showrunner Scott Kreamer confirmed that the wild ending of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous was franchise canon, the biggest unanswered questions from season 1 are even more pressing.

Do Roxie & Dave Turn The Ferry Around?

Biggest Questions About Jurassic World After Camp Cretaceous

The season 1 finale of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous ends with a major cliffhanger when the kids finally reach the ferry to evacuate Isla Nublar, and find out that it left without them. Although their camp counselors Roxie (Jameela Jamil) and Dave (Glen Powell) tried desperately to stall the ferry and wait for the kids, they were unsuccessful. Season 1 ends with Roxie and Dave still trying to convince the ferry driver to turn around go back to the kids, but never reveals if they were successful. Unfortunately for the campers in Camp Cretaceous, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom reveals the destruction of Isla Nublar – and if Roxie and Dave don’t manage to turn the ferry around, the fate of the kids is a huge question.

Did Ben Survive His Fall?

Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous Ben

The most shocking moment in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 1 is when Ben, the shyest camper and the least suited to surviving in the park, seems to fall from the monorail to his death. Although the Netflix animated series is dark, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is still aimed at kids, and killing off a main character would be a huge departure from the otherwise child-friendly show. The series hints that Ben might have survived that fall in the last few minutes of season 1, when Ben’s baby Anklylosaurus Bumpy finds his body. Ben’s hand seems to twitch when Bumpy discovers him, hinting that Ben is likely still alive.

If Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous didn’t kill Ben off, he’s still separated from the five other campers and has a long road ahead of him. With Ben stranded in the middle of Isla Nublar while dinosaurs are on the loose, he’s going to have to try and find the other campers in order to survive, leaving his fate a huge unanswered question. If Ben were to somehow wake up with minimal injuries, he still has no idea where the other campers are – the last time he saw them, they were still trying to get to the ferry. For all Ben knows, they were able to safely evacuate from Isla Nublar, and he is now the only survivor on the island.

Does Season 2 Take Place During Fallen Kingdom?

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Logo

Since Camp Cretaceous takes place during Jurassic World, it would make sense for season 2 to coincide with the 2018 movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. That would mean that season 2 would potentially see a time jump to three years after the campers were abandoned on Isla Nublar, to match up with the timeline of the film. Even if season 2 didn’t include such a significant time jump, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom reveals that mercenaries arrive on Isla Nublar six months after the ending of Jurassic World, and they could possibly run into the campers at some point.

The question of what Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 2 might look like is a big one, and has a potentially huge consequences for the campers in the show. Although the characters never appear in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, they could still be on the other side of the island, still trying to survive and avoiding the mercenaries in the park. If Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous once again coincided with the movies, then the campers will have had to survive alone on Isla Nublar for almost three years before the events of season 2.

What Happens When Mt. Sibo Erupts?

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Bryce Dallas Howard Justice Smith

The biggest obstacle facing the kids in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is the impending eruption of Mt. Sibo, which destroys the park completely in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Although the kids have three years from the end of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous until Mt. Sibo’s eruption, it puts a timer on their survival on Isla Nublar. If  Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 2 does have a time jump in order to match up with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, then the impending eruption of Mt. Sibo becomes a very real threat to the abandoned kids. If they can’t escape Isla Nublar before the volcano destroys the island, the campers are doomed.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous broadens the Jurassic Park franchise and leaves several major questions unanswered at the end of season 1, making it feel like a more important part of the overall canon. Audiences who have seen Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom already know the destructive fate of Isla Nublar and what the campers might face in season 2, but those teases only make the next run of episodes more exciting. From seeing if Ben survived his fall to the countdown of Mt. Sibo’s eruption and destruction of Jurassic World, hopefully season 2 can answer the biggest questions left from Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
