Big Mouth Season 8: Release Date Prediction, Renewal & Everything We Know

<

Big Mouth season 8 is the final chapter in Netflix’s raunchy adult coming-of-age comedy, and speculation on how the stories of Nick, Andrew, and their Hormone Monsters end is high. Big Mouth debuted on Netflix in 2017 and has gone on to have seven critically and audience-acclaimed seasons. Big Mouth season 8 is planned as the final season of Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett’s animated sitcom about puberty and life in Middle School, and while many subscribers are sad to see the show end it’s set up to conclude on a satisfying note.

With Nick and Andrew in different High Schools and Jessi exploring her feelings for women, when the Big Mouth season 8 release date arrives it will find the core trio going their separate ways as they develop into young adults and enter new social circles in High School (as well as growing out of the more awkward, Hormone Monster filled parts of puberty). This won’t come without obstacles though, and Big Mouth season 8 could end the show with one of the most eventful chapters so far.

Big Mouth Season 8: Release Date Prediction, Renewal & Everything We Know

There hasn’t been any Big Mouth season 8 news since the seventh arrived on October 27, 2023. This likely means that there’ll be some kind of update from the show’s creators, cast, or Netflix themselves over the coming weeks or months. However, one spanner in the works is the still-ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Production and recording on Big Mouth season 8 cannot start until the strikes are resolved. However, since the WGA and AMPTP reached an agreement in September it’s possible that development on the Big Mouth season 8 scripts will begin soon (or has started already) which could mean a tease of what to expect at some point in the near future.

Big Mouth has been renewed for season 8, with the confirmation coming from Netflix in April 2023 (via Deadline). It was revealed alongside the renewal that the next season of Big Mouth would also be the last. Once the season 8 release date arrives it will mark an important milestone, as it will make Big Mouth the longest-running scripted original series on Netflix so far.

It’s expected that the Big Mouth season 8 release date will arrive in 2024, though nothing has been announced by Netflix yet. The streamer has been committed to an annual release window for Big Mouth so far, and the current season is no exception. However, with the SAG-AFTRA strikes still ongoing in late 2023 there could be a delay to production. Exactly if this will cause a Big Mouth season 8 release date on Netflix later in 2024 than usual (like 202’s season 10, which arrived in December that year), or even in 2025, remains to be seen.

Big Mouth Season 8 Cast

Who Are The Returning Cast Members And Guest Stars Of The Next Season Of Big Mouth?

The Big Mouth season 8 cast will be unchanged, at least as far as is currently known, since Netflix hasn’t announced any recasts. Nick Kroll (The Addams Family, Sing), who also co-created the show, will be back to play Nick Birch, Maurice the Hormone Monster, Coach Steve, Lola Skumpy, and a variety of other characters. He’ll of course be joined again by John Mulaney (Saturday Night Live, Mulaney) as Andrew Glouberman, Nick’s now-distant best friend, and Jessi Klein (Michael and Michael Have Issues, Saturday Night Live) as Jessi Glaser.

The ensemble cast of Big Mouth is vast, and the colorful range of characters in the show is one of the key reasons it’s endured to run to the upcoming season 8 on Netflix. The returning cast of Big Mouth season 8 will also include:

  • Jazon Mantzoukas (Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Jay Bilzerian
  • Ayo Edibiri (Abbott Elementary, The Bear) as Missy Foreman-Greenwald
  • Fred Armisen (The Looney Tunes Show, Documentary Now) as Elliot Birch and Bob the Hormone Monster
  • Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, Grown Ups) as Connie the Hormone Monstress, Diane Birch, and various other roles
  • Jordan Peele (The Twilight Zone, Keye & Peele) as the ghost of jazz singer Duke Ellington, among a variety of other roles including the ghosts of Freddi Mercury and David Bowie
  • Andrew Rannells (Black Monday, Girls) as Matthew

Big Mouth also has dozens of supporting cast members such as Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin, Annihilation) as Gina Alvarez and Chloe Fineman (Babylon, White Noise) as Nick’s older sister Leah. It’s unclear at this time if there will be any recasts among the supporting cast in the next season of Big Mouth, but it is possible. Fineman, for example, replaced Kat Dennings (Thor, Two Broke Girls) as Leah in season 5.

There are also likely to be many guest stars in Big Mouth season 8. Netflix hasn’t revealed who they could be, however. Previous guest stars have included Nathan Fillion as himself, Kristen Wiig playing Jessi’s vulva (and its evil yeast-infected twin), and Zachary Quinto as Matthew’s ex-boyfriend Aiden, among others. It’s safe to say the cast of Big Mouth season 8 will include a few more recognized names, especially since it’s the final season.

Big Mouth Season 8 Story

How Will Big Mouth End?

Big Mouth Duke Ellington Ghost Nick Andrew

Big Mouth season 8 will be the final chapter of the show, and it’s safe to say it will go out with a bang. Big Mouth is ending with season 8 so creators Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett can ensure it has a satisfying conclusion. Big Mouth has focused on Nick, Andrew, Jessi, Jay, and the rest of the characters through Middle School and the early stages of puberty. Season 7 saw them enter high school and the next stage of life.

Big Mouth season 8 will be a fitting place for the show to end. The end of Big Mouth season 7 had Nick and Andrew going to different schools, while Jessi explores her sexuality and attraction to women. All three of the central trio seem to be going their separate ways and developing their own storylines and lives, mirroring how reality often is after Middle School. Continuing Big Mouth past this point could strain the narrative significantly, and rounding the show off after 8 highly successful seasons’s on Netflix doesn’t feel like one of the infamous streamer’s abrupt early cancelations.

As for specific arcs, Jay and Lola may reconcile in Big Mouth season 8, since Jay appears to have moved on from Matthew. Jessi will continue to explore her feelings toward women, and her arc may end with her entering a romantic relationship with Lulu. As for Nick and Andrew’s friendship, going to different schools has definitely put a strain on things, and it may be that both begin to develop new social connections and friends in High School in Big Mouth season 8.
