Big Brother: Whitney Williams Jokes About Being Denied IG Verification

Big Brother 23’s Whitney Williams took to her Instagram story Tuesday to joke about being denied approval for verification of her account on the social media platform. Whitney was one of 16 other individuals that made it through the grueling casting process to be a part of the brand new cast of the show this summer. Unfortunately for Whitney, her time inside the Big Brother house has already come to an end.

Whitney’s gameplay started off strong. On night one, she won the title of team captain for the Aces Team. She then chose Brent Champagne, Derek Xiao, and Hannah Chaddha to play alongside her. While all of the teams had a special bond, Whitney failed to venture outside of her team to form allies elsewhere. Because of this, Whitney’s game quickly began to decline. She was ultimately evicted last week with an unanimous vote.

Since leaving the Big Brother house nearly one week ago, Whitney has already made her return to social media. Whitney took to her Instagram story on Tuesday, August 10 to joke about being denied approval for verification of her account @makeupbywhit. It is assumed that Whitney requested verification not long after returning home. She shared a screenshot of her account notifications, circling the one denying her request. The notification informed her not only that her request was denied but also that her account does not meet the “criteria for verification.” Whitney will be able to submit another request in 30 days.

Whitney added a gif to the story, implying that she found the denial humorous. According to Instagram, there are four requirements for verification. They include authentic, unique, complete and notable. A Reddit user speculated that Whitney was denied verification due to the notable requirement which states, “Your account must represent a well-known, highly searched for person, brand or entity.” As of writing, Whitney’s Instagram account currently has 40.1K followers. Prior to being casted for Big Brother, Whitney had a little over 15,000 followers. That means she has gained nearly 25,000 followers from her four weeks competing on the show. It could be assumed that her following will continue to grow over time, especially as she goes back to being more active on it.

Whitney did not seem too upset about being denied verification for her Instagram account since she was joking about it. However, having a blue check next to her account name would actually benefit her. Since Whitney often times uses her platform to promote her makeup business, having not only a large following but also a verified account could ultimately help her business succeed even more. It would not be surprising if Whitney does in fact get approved for verification sometime in the near future. A majority of Big Brother alum are actually verified on Instagram; however, many of them have larger followings than Whitney currently does.
